I'm thinking about picking up another GP as a DD/beater car so I can keep miles off the STi. I'd like a to find a GT, I don't care if it's nice as long as it runs, and Morads is only 45 minutes away if I need parts anyhow. It seems like every few weeks someone is picking up a 97-99 for $800 or less. Around here the cheapest GT I've seen is up for $2500 with 181K miles. Where are you guys finding these things? Craigslist? Newspaper classifieds?

I'm looking for a beater in general. I also wouldn't mind picking up something like a mid 90's S-10 with a I4, an older GC/2.5rs, even a civic or some other semi-reliable/fuel efficient car. A GP would be nice though because I'm already familiar with the car.

I can't get another GTP. I'll want to mod it even though I know I shouldn't. Plus not having to put premium in something I own would be a nice change.

People just like to over price crap...you'll find someone who doesn't know cars or has a VERY easy fixable issue like a warped upper intake manifold, bad LIM gaskets, vac. leak etc...buy it cheap...clean it up really good...refresh the top end gaskets, fluids, etc...and for around a grand you'll have a top notch DD...for the most part.

That's what I'm thinking. I wouldn't mind picking up something with bad LIM gaskets, I've dealt with that once before on the GTP I could do it again.

There's plenty of hoods around here, NE Ohio is a **** hole. We have Cleveland, Youngstown, Warren, Akron, Canton, etc. (don't take this the wrong way my my fellow NEOhioans, I'm sure we all want out of here though haha)

    I'm looking at older Merc's

W123 Diesel (tank, it has nothing that can go wrong with, most reliable vehicle on the road)
    and
w201s they are tanks but have like 2 small things go wrong IIRC

I've been out and drove a couple of w123 Diesels already and I'll probably have one in the coming months.

If I could afford a MKIV Jetta TDI I'd be all over it. I have a friend that has one with ~380K on it and it makes like 220HP and 450+ ft-lbs, he has another tha'ts stock except a tune with 260K on it and he gets 65+ MPG's.

w123 can be had for 2,500 and still be in good enough shape.

a little more to spend, but repairs on a 1k GP might add up to what you could've had with a w123. Do the research before you buy and know what to expect and look for, its all out there.

Diesels also get the better mileage too.

A guy I used to work with has a ford probe with 65K miles on it that he'd sell to me for 1K. I think I'd want something with a standard trans though.
