Hi GP Forum members,
I've been a long time reader (aka lurker) of this site and after reading countless posts, columns and "How-To" articles, I decided to throw myself into the mix and introduce myself and my silver bronx "beater". The story begins in November of 2009 when I picked up my 2000 Grand Prix GT from a shady little dealership for roughly $3,000 after taxes, registration, inspection, insurance and all the little bells and whistles the dmv likes to throw our way. It came with a subtle warning however from the guy running the car lot..
"Its a good beater to get you through the winter but don't expect this to run you into the summer"
Not the most inspiring of sales pitches, but i fell in love with it at first sight and like a real genius I went with my gut and bought it anyway. I wasn't an automotive genius but i knew where to look for leaks, flat spots on tires, water lines in or under the carpet, electrical oddities and the usual stuff like that but it wasn't the major mechanical components that concerned me. It was the detail work. Some of which I still can't figure out, but we'll get to that later.
The previous owner already fitted a great Sony Xplod system and HID bulbs, unfortunately in stock headlight housings, so I knew I was saving at least $1,000 in ballasts, bulbs, amps, wiring and speakers. The downside to that positive is it needs bodywork. In some places... desperately. Anyway, i'll get into those details when I start spreading my car around the forum trying to turn my 'beater' into a Defeater.
Thanks for reading and hang on, for this will be a looooong and bumpy ride![]()
