    Guys,

The other day my 880 HIDs (fog lights) were randomly working. I checked my ground and connections and all were secure like they should be. I figured out the problem... I touched the relay and the lights came on. The relay had corrosion on itself and the connector. Obviously it ain't weather resistant. The fuses ain't either although I haven't had a problem with them yet, there was a little corrosion on the spades too.

So my first question is, whats the best way to clean the corrsion off the relay, fuses, and connectors? I assume baking soda/water will do the trick, any other suggestions? As for sealing everything from the weather/water, what can I do? I don't want to silicone everything because the relay + fuses may need to be replaced in the future. Only thing I can logically think of doing is using dielectic grease on the connections and electrical tape. What do you guys think? Any suggestions? I'd like to solve this problem for good.

    Thanks...

    Shawn just replace them now.

And when you due wrap in electrical tape.

after you replace what needs replacing, you could also use the liquid electrical tape. it's not as permanent as silicone or what not.

wrap them up in a balloon.......and seal the end with grease. this worked for all my speed controls for R/C cars very well. lol. not sure if it would work in your application

To remove corrosion, I would use a wire brush, like a wire brush and some WD-40 believe it or not. Baking soda will neutralize the acid, so why not.

To seal everything up, I would either remove the old connections and install water proof ones, or use some electrical tape when you reinstall, and coat all connections with some dielectric grease.

Also for your grounds...they can be as tight as possible, but still not preform like they should. Make sure they are not being grounded to a painted surface of the body. if they are, remove the paint, and reattach, and again, coat the grounds with some dielectric grease to not only stop the corrosion, but to displace any water from making the body of the car rust where you removed the paint to get a good ground.

Just curious...what HID kit is this? Like who was it from etc.

Use silicone grease on all the connections. Mount the relay where it is less likely to get wet, and DO NOT seal it up with tape or a balloon. Water WILL still get in there, and NOT dry out.

    Interesting suggestions guys. Thanks

BackInBlack, are you suggesting not sealing the connections at all? Just clean them up, use a dielectric grease and thats it? Make sense, tape or a ballon wouldn't allow moister to escape easily if it got in.

As for mounting the relay elsewhere, Only place I can have it is in the passenger side fenderwell unfortunetily....

yeah. either sealing with dielectric grease or sealing with epoxy or liquid elctrical tape are about the only options to keep it sealed.
