I am looking at getting an air compressor because I am getting tired of not haveing one . I am looking for something around the size of an 80 dual stage 240v. The problem is they are so expensive. I plan to use it for an impact, die grinder things of that nature. Shouldn't be doing any painting with it. What are some of you guys using?

Here is one I found online, a local place sell "Industrial air" air compressors, not sure if this is the same one that they sell.

I dont know about you, but that is pricey for an air compressor for what all you want to do with it. I am usually the king of overkill, but even that would be more than I would go with.

You probably dont have them there where you are at, but Atwoods, a local farm type store has a 4hp, 25gal air compressor for under $300.

You can go to sears and get a craftsman 60gal, 3hp upright compressor for $500.

^Thats not a bad one there that Scotty posted.

If you go Craftsman, stay away, stay far-far away from "oil free" compressors. Only ones worth getting and lasting a VERY long time are the oil lube ones.

I bought one back in March and love it. I would of went bigger, but I like the idea of having one thats big, yet portable, this one fit me well.

As soon as I got it I already started modifying it for my tastes, and use age.

For starters, I got rid of that joke they call a tank drain and put me in a ball valve:

I also added me another ball valve and an extender post on the main connection up top, that way you can bleed the air hose down all the way once the ball valve is shut then remove your tool from the hose.

Ok here is the one my dad has and the one I am pretty sure I will get. I want something with some CFM and something will run an impact. I have used impacts on small tank compressors and they just don't work. Plus someday I might be doing body work (I have a 67 and 69 chevy pickups I am restoring). How does yours run an impact Jason?

I went with an "oil free" compressor from sears 5 years ago and have used the heck out of it with no issues.

The one I have at work isn't oil free and thet thing is awsome. It's a stand up style from Lowes. Can't remember the name of it though.
