Re: Weight Loss or Weight Gain Thread "2012"
As of October 28, 2012, I was at 300 pounds exactly.
I gave up soda (drink water instead), eat out less, and get more active generally (play outside, work on cars, etc.)
As of this morning I'm sitting at 240 exactly - a loss of 60 pounds. Or four bowling balls.
I used to wear a 42, sometimes 44 pants. I'm in a 36-38 now.
Re: Weight Loss or Weight Gain Thread "2012"
I hit about 170 lbs the other day @ 5 ft 9. Also hit a PR on the bench @ 235lbs
I consider myself a hobby bodybuilder lol
anyone use the bb.com forums?
Re: Weight Loss or Weight Gain Thread "2012"
henslaya1: I have a secret hatred for guys that lose weight by skipping soda. Way unfair. Good work, dude. Keep going.
des19: That's a solid PR, congrats.
There's a couple of guys on here that have posted about bb.com, but there's so much worthless junk there as to render it an unwieldy place. It has definitely gotten better over the years, though, especially with some of the stickys and logs.
As for the rest of you, sop falling off the wagon. I need someone to suffer with me through this diet crap.
Re: Weight Loss or Weight Gain Thread "2012"
I don't need to be on the diet wagon :D

Re: Weight Loss or Weight Gain Thread "2012"
Gained 8 pounds of muscle in about a month. Currently: 6' @ 181
Breakfast consists of 3 eggs, turkey sausage, and a protein shake. Dinner is always chicken breast or fish and another protein shake.
Eating right makes a world of difference when it comes to weight lifting, I've gained no extra fat, just muscle. Work hard at the gym everyday with a partner. Pushing myself to the limit.
And once again, like always, I must applause Corey with the workout routine that I still follow and always will. Works phenomenal.
Re: Weight Loss or Weight Gain Thread "2012"
I was up to 145!
Then my gym schedule went to sh!t and I dropped 10 lbs.

Re: Weight Loss or Weight Gain Thread "2012"
bb.com I got sick of, to me its a bunch of kids flapping their jaw. I use AM when I am bored to read.
Dan glad you are still enjoying it. IM testing a different "setup" right now, but really need to get my cals over 2500 a day lol. But as of right now, this experiment has no negatives. (no not roids you fools)

I occasionally think it might be nice to be able to find a gym partner that can keep up with me. Until then, I live alone. I train alone. I'll win the title alone.
By "setup," do you mean you're changing your programming? Diet? Both?
Re: Weight Loss or Weight Gain Thread "2012"
Working out alone is the only way to be.
setup as in playing with reps. still do my 5 reps wont ever stop that, but toying with the phrase "hypertrophy". As of right now I beleive its semi over rated.
Re: Weight Loss or Weight Gain Thread "2012"
I feel super at-home with 5 reps in most things (3 reps is happiness, too). The 8/10/12/15/whatever school definitely seem to put on some good size... which seems to me to be a good foundation for strength. I sometimes feel like it's harder to get stronger without getting bigger first, though some olympic lifters certainly don't seem to care much for size. I despise the pump, so high reps is a tough mental exercise for me. (If you don't think it's mental, try doing 100 curls with 10lb dumbbells without stopping.)
Paul Carter of Lift Run Bang talks about such philosophies a lot, actually - worth some reading.
Re: Weight Loss or Weight Gain Thread "2012"
What's the verdict for mass?
High weight low reps?
Or the 8-12 reps and like 5 sets?
I always see this arguments online and just don't know...
I mean both have worked for me.

Re: Weight Loss or Weight Gain Thread "2012"
Ever seen a small power lifter that benches 600lbs? Ever seen a tiny to all hell juiced to the sky bodybuilder? NO?
See answer below.
Eat, sleep, lift. Eat, sleep, lift. Eat, sleep, lift. Eat, sleep, lift. Eat, sleep, lift. x365 x your life
Its not complicated. Pick any rep, stick to it and use it = RESULTS. Speed lifting is wrong if you cant controll it, its to heavy. TUT (time under tension) is good for you.
Re: Weight Loss or Weight Gain Thread "2012"
Obviously I know the eat sleep lift and not to speed reps, it's just a question I was putting out there.

Re: Weight Loss or Weight Gain Thread "2012"
its a over asked answer. Pick a rep, use it. they all work. Size= strength Strength= size
Re: Weight Loss or Weight Gain Thread "2012"
Rep ranges matter less, I suspect, than rest times. Shorter rest periods should increase hypertrophy, as the muscles must recruit more muscle fibers to combat fatigue. Or maybe that's some wicked broscience.
And everyone seems to respond differently. Some people blow up doing 10 sets of 30 reps of paperweights. Some people stick to singles and triples and still get jacked. There's even a school of jacked dudes that cycle between weeks/months of "light" high rep work and heavy low rep work. So the catch is that you need to experiment, then experiment more to figure out what your groove is.
A lot of it is mental, too. I'm not excited enough to go play at the gym unless it's heavy and brutal. I am not motivated by drop sets of cable curls or thousands of dumbbell shrugs or situps, so I probably won't bother to make it to the gym to do those. So regardless of what is "scientifically proven" to make you biggest, actually showing up and busting your ass is the key. The rest is details you'll figure out.
Also, protein intake. Raise that motherfcker.
Re: Weight Loss or Weight Gain Thread "2012"
Guess this diet's working. Looking better and down about 14lbs in 27 days. My lifts seem to not be losing much oompf, except for bench press, which was never impressive, but is now wimpy, haha.
Re: Weight Loss or Weight Gain Thread "2012"
I'm down from 227 to 196. 31#'s of unneeded fat out of my life.
Re: Weight Loss or Weight Gain Thread "2012"
227 from 232, u can thank this lump on my neck. women might make me go to the doctor tmw:th_sick1:
Re: Weight Loss or Weight Gain Thread "2012"
Kolton, you're moving or something right? You don't have time for cooking meal after meal. Just cook one big one and keep reheating it. Here's some stellar bathroom reading to help you get jacked and tan:

Re: Weight Loss or Weight Gain Thread "2012"
I am beginning to wonder if it is not actually a coincidence that everyone that benches more than me has bigger biceps as well. Time to test that one out... and this'll be fun because curls bore me to death.
