I just got this done today and i got to say what a waste of time and money. The plug wires are now hanging out there in the open with cheap "retainers". #5 wire is laying on the motor mount and the retainers dont clip onto the valve cover!

My VC gasket was not even leaking but i figured take it in just in case. OMG, i wish i would have never done it now because now i have to complain. junk!

part number of each retainer is 88891792 and 12132229 but i dont know if that was used.

Well you gotta figure they werent going to be generous with it. I mean most people when they change a valve cover gasket would change both of them, so that should have been a clue there.

Heck yeah, I already decided they arent touching my car. I replaced my valve cover gaskets already and I dont run stock wires. So I'm just submitting my bill for the parts.

um....from the looks of it. they broke your OEM spark plug wire holder..which "snaps" to your valve covers.

they just replaced it with a litle crappy wire seperator....

I'd take it back and complain that, it was broken and it was just rigged up. I would complain like no other!!

this is why I will not let another dealership touch my cars. hope you can get it fixed...

I totally agree. The original holder would cause no problems. I just bought a new holder from Pace and they are very inexpensive. Like $4 iirc

Wait, so if we bought new valve cover gaskets already, we can just send the bill for the gaskets and GM will reimburse? (sorry, a little off-topic)

From what I understand yes. I recieved a form to submit repair costs if already done. I did mine myself so I am trying to figure out how to get some labor cost also. Otheriwse I'll get just the 40 bucks I spent on new seals through ZZP. I just dont know if they are the same as the dealership is installing. My originals were orange and these new ones looked black. So far no leaks or issues.

Actually it looks like they almost broke the VC itself look at the center bolt. I am getting missfires on my scan gauge thanks GM

I am not seeing anything out of the ordinary.... the valve cover bolts only go down so far....they would strip out the head before there is too much pressure on the valve cover. there is a metal spacer in between the rubber bolt seal...it acts as a stop.

that little part that comes away from the valve cover is where the old wire holder snapped into.....

If you are looking at what appears to be the edge of the VC being bowed. It's supposed to be like that. The tq on those bolts are only aound 7 ft lbs. Certainly not enough tq to damage the vc. Plus you would see oil coming out where you suspect the damage to be.

I meant that the VC looks bent like when it pryed off with something. It does not matter i chacked the other day and its leaking. I am waiting to get a DTC for a missfire so that i can go back and give them hell for free ignition parts. I have a set of wires and plugs on stand by.

Wait... So you're saying you brought your car in for the recall, to fix a leak.... And it's still leaking?

Wow... I'm glad I already did mine myself....
