No offense, but that Is horrible advice. I work at a motorcycle dealership and the bikes that come in on flatbeds and get totaled out 3 days after they're purchased are almost always liter bikes that someone bought as a first bike.
There is absolutely no advantage for a new rider to get a 1000 over a 600. 99.9% of us wont ride a 600 to 75% of what it's capable of doing, let alone a 1000.
I started out a 500 twin with 40HP and then moved on to my R6 with 120HP and I don't regret learning how to ride a streetbike on a smaller bike for even a second. A new rider and a liter bike is a deadly mix.
OP: Find a bike that fits you. Sit on R6's, CBR 600RR's, GSXR's and ZX-6R's. I love my 06 R6 but it's a little too tall for me and It was really uncomfortable to ride until I got used to it. I think the new 600RR's are the most comfortable 600's out there right now (If we're talking strictly 600's, 650 twins are great too though).
