last night i was drinkin with some friends when engine swaps became the subject. one of my dsm friends said itd be neat to put a 4g63t in a grand prix. i laughed at the thought of a 4 banger in my car but then i found myself interested. considering the amazing potential of this engine and all the extra room id have and assuming i found a way to mount and adapt it the the tranny, would this be crazy or even stupid idea or would it be pretty cool to see? would it even work? again we were drinking but yeah...lol

sooo....whats the potential of that engine in comparison to a solid 3800 block? about nothing.

you do realize that anyone pushing good power with a 4g63t has a BUILT block, whereas anyone with a turbo GP can push 500 whp with a healthy turbo setup on a STOCK BLOCK and be done? come on now, think before you speak.

because the stock subaru block is good for like, what...350-450 whp before it will blow at the slightest pinging?

stock 3800 block still wins. im not being biased here.

I know guys with the FWD VQ35 block hitting 270whp N/A with just bolt-ons in a 3,100 lbs car and they are running high 12s.

Hell we have a guy on the maxima forums with a stock bottom block, head and cam work up top who just pulled a 10s 1/4 mile pass N/A.

Someone just did a fully built NA VQ35 FWD and is hitting 320whp and he is still getting use to it and tweaking it, but he has pulled a 12.2 1/4 pass.

SO a VQ needs boost to be useful eh?

I love the LS motors and I agree that go big cube or go home, but i'm comparing v6 to v6 for now. I mean if you wanna drop a 4 cylinder in, go for an SR20 or something other than a Mitsu engine or QR25 (garbage POS motor)

How about a 2.0T from a VW, those things love boost? or a Diesel Grand Prix LOL?

I bet that guy has **** ton of money in the VQ making 320whp. Not saying it cant be done at least a year ago I believe modified magazine had a 400hp VQ in a G35 that was NA. Massive heads, massive cam, and a holden intake I bet an ancient pushrod 3800 could come damn close to those #s. I will say again for the money yes anything small cubes needs boost. I bet easily the money thats into the VQ could have been spent on a turbo or SC setup and it'd make more HP for less. Same with the NA 3800. Also ever drove a massive head/cam NA car on the street? Their worthless. All comes down to what I said in the 1st place anything can be fast and make big HP even NA its a matter of how deep are your pockets??

well the 7 bolts were more prone to crankwalk it was almost unheard of in the 1G 6 bolts. youre right though bio the 3800 is a stronger block. but i suppose if i ever did want to put a 4 banger in there id stick with the 4g63. best 4 banger ever in my opinion. though i suppose the LNF motor could be its rival.

Its ok I got flame retardant uniforms just figured id throw that out their before I make my statement. The ecotec is a damn good engine also as a 4 cylinder esp with turbo and direct injection!

Well would you look at that, noobs talkin about crankwalk. HA. It should also be noted that a "4g63" is NOT the same as a "4g63t".

On a side note. This is a GM product. If you want to do a killer engine swap... LS1? no? never heard of one? The 4g63t is a neat engine for a mitsubishi car, and it has potential, dont get me wrong. But like the other guys on here have said.. the 3800 has more potential without spending more money. A 3800 doesn't seem to have a HP limit on the stock short block as far as we know. The 4g63t however, the most solid stock build will be limited to 400whp or so. Why do dsm guys mess with the 4g63t soo damn much? I've owned a gsx, there is no room in the engine bay for anything else.
