i just bought a 2000 gtp daytona 500,with too many miles on it.lol
i paid $800 for it.it needs a front bumper cover, right front fender, maybe a right side door(its not too banged up).and i need to replace or just remove the cat(plugged)other than that the car is minty, very well taken care of.

any ways, the point of this is to ask you guys/gals what do think the car would be worth with high milage?and since i paid 800 bucks for it,how much can i spend on it with out going over what it might be worth.
    i figured about 3000 dollars(ball park)would be okay.
    what do you think?

it depends on the mileage and what all it needs. you say too many miles but we need to know if your asking what its worth.

Once again... depends on what it NEEDS.

    Does it run? Drive? ect...

You can't estimate a cost just by telling us a car with a certain amount of miles on it.

For all you know it needs a new motor, tranny, mounts, axles, ect..

You can be looking at $100 or $5000 who knows..

at 290 K you're looking into transmission work and possibly rebuilding the engine.

Oh and basically most of your suspension components are probably in need of replacement.

Do a compression test and see if you can get a scan and see how long it takes the transmission to shift at WOT. Then get someone to check out the suspension for you.

ok.i did a compression test and i had 90 psi across the the board(all 6 cylinders)the tranny does not leak a drop of oil,and looks to be fairly new(very clean, gasket edges, bolt heads, ect.)im pretty sure the cat is plugged and its over fueling,a couple of exhaust leaks here and there, brakes and rotors are all new,im going to change the ball joints and tie rod ends just for the heck of it.control arm bushings are in great shape(no rips or or cracking)sway bar and bushing are new.everything in the car works perfect, all glass is perfect.

let me no if 90 psi is ok.

    Nice find for $800

I only paid $1000 for mine. If you really want to know how much to put into it, consider how much you paid for it. The shop wants $1245.48 to repair it all on my car.... If I didn't need the car, I'd done had it sold for $1000 again. I've never had good luck with cars... Good Luck to You

isn't 90 PSI basically rebuild territory?

as in .... time for a rebuild or new engine.

90psi on the first puss or after 4 puffs some folks do the test diff

90 psi on the first puff would be fine that would mean around 150psi after 4 puffs

rule of thumb on this is it should be at least half of the first puff added on to the first you should be around 145-150 125 seems a bit low It was consistant across the board though so it might be ok were any higher or lower were they all with in 5 psi of each other

all pretty close to 125,none under.and thats a dry test.with oil it would probably be 130-135ish,guys i dont know much about these motors.ive been in love with my 3.4DOHC engines.i cant see this 3800s/c throwing me more gremlins than im already used to.
my biggest problem is the super charger,i know nothing, like what kind of oil does it take?can i change the oil?common problems?will the motor still run if the s/c is no good?also can i remove the cat and leave the back 02 sensor installed with out having any problems.or do i need a cat for that sensor to read properly? sorry for bombarding you with all these questions so fast, but im one of those people that fall in love with cars, and i want to drive the **** outa this thing, and see for my self if it is really that much faster than my 3.4dohc engines.

thanks again.the more info or need to knows the better

for the blower use gm supercharger oil you can change it but be warned it smells worse then satans asshole just get a large suringe and small hose that will fit in the drain hole on top

for the engine i use synthetic 10w30

if the blowers bad you can run it with out the belt just dont go wot
common issues would be the coupler and bearings

blowers can be found from 100-300 on here and places like zzp

you can run catless some engines need the rear o2 or a simulator i think 00 and up or something like that a tune can delete the po420 code

the car runs fueling on the front o2 sensor rear is just a cat efficientcy sensor
