Im thinking about buying a 1999 grand prix gtp. 141,000 miles for $2800.

I don't know if i should, here is why.

it is heavily modified. basically all bolt ons and he says he has run it at the track a handful of times. he claims 13's. it doesnt have a cat so the check engine light is on but he said he would put it back on if i wanted him to. otherwise its in good shape he claims.

anyways, this will be my daily driver not my dragster. I don't care about going to the strip, i just want a fast fun car. should i stay away from it since it was obviously ran hard and fast. If i test drive it and check it out and everything is ok should i give it a shot? Or not even bother since it has been driven hard and has high miles?

couple of things... its not heavily modified until you post up what the guys got... The biggest question is why is he selling it, then ask him to have the car scanned and give you a print out of all the codes. I wouldnt buy a modded car unless I know the person. Seen to many front banks ruined

I wouldnt do it unless you know how to work on the car

I personally would never buy a modded car and i definatly wouldnt suggest buying a modded car unless you knew the cars history and knew is was modded correctly

    whats the big deal?

if the car checks out okay, why not go for it?

and i read the article on how to safely mod the gtp and it seems that he has most things in place before putting in a smaller pulley. so no worries there.

is it just because you guys figure he beat the helll out of the car?

or do you think he doesn't know what he is doing as far as mods?

    or what?

the car will not check out okay, if you buy it, you will have to fix EVERYTHING, he did beat it, otherwise why did he "mod it", doesnt sound like he knows(not safely modded, no headers, etc) and he claims 13s.. ha. and why did u get a tune without deleting cat codes???

even if he babied the car, its still gonna have problems. its got 140k. i only have 80 on mine, its had its fair share, plus already had to have a tranny problem fixed. but this car is not gonna be anywere near top shape, so you will be screwing yourself. like everyone else said, i wouldnt buy a modded any type of car without knowing the car, and the guy it came from.

Modded=raced or beat on= lots of stuff ready to break= more money spent by you in the end

Find a unmolested gtp and mod it your self

    That is perfectly fine.

I'd offer him 1500-2000, and say go for it.

The main thing you should worry about is the transmission, make sure the tranny fluid is clean.

If the body and interior is in good condition, and tranny, it's worth it.

    Do you got any pictures?

define "smaller pulley." if it's just a 3.4, it'd probably be fine, any smaller and heck no.
