Thread: Add-on hydrogen power

I know nothing about using hydrogen to power an automobile. While doing research on Ethos I stumbled across Hydrogen Boost .Can this possibliy work? I understand hydrogen power is a long term goal for US energy conservation. However, can a $1000 kit boost power and fuel economy?

Ive done a fair amount of research on fringe fuel economy enhancements. And while a few have long proven benefits, others that are emerging that show promise there are a few, like the hydrogen thing that I am just not convinced of nor do anything to lead me to believe that they are more than just gimmicks.

No offense archemedes, but I dont buy the whole if it worked then so and so company would be using it. There are long proven techniques that have yet to make their way into everyday automobiles.

Not long after Hurricane Katrina hit and gas prices went ballistic and stayed there, I was watching a special on CNN in which they did a story on a company in Florida I believe it was that was producing production ready equipment that was taking ordinary water and ionizing it or doing something with it that separated the hydrogen and oxygen and the motor was running off one of them. Probably the hydrogen. I wish I could find the link now.

However I remember thinking then since the kit is here, works and seemed easily adaptable why isnt everyone using it? Is such a invention the solution? Probably not because we would move the liquid gold from being gas to water and with the areas in severe droughts, I doubt it would be a long term solution. However, it is a start and yet its been a while since that was on the air and yet no manufacturer has picked it up.

So while there are viable solutions out there, or at least ones that would move us more away from dependence on gas or oil, they still have not made it to mainstream.

One quick example I know of would be the Coates Engines. An EXTREMELY good idea and well established and proven yet we are here, same ole stuff, no manufacturers using it.

While I was at a shop today a guy even older than I, said he has neighbor that did soemthing to his car and it gets over 100 MPG. I asked what it was that was done to the car but he didn't understand what it was or how it worked.

My wife is looking into becoming a beta tester for a hydrogen Equinox that is currently being tested in limited areas. When available here she is ready to try it out.

I realize this is completely different, but still hydrogen.

yeah, it is very interesting to say the least. And Im gullible enough to try just about anything because I just get to a point where Im overly curious. Ive tried a lot of things, a few have worked, many have not.

Ive been experimenting with fuel economy for probably 15 years or more and its just now becoming useful knowledge, meaning others are curious and asking questions. Drop gas prices $2 a gallon and it will be worthless to most again.

Unfortunately you are right. I've not been too concerned about gas milage or the cost of fuel, but more the reduced reliance. Too bad that most are apathetic enough, to only be interested in fuel economy based on the immediate condition of their wallets.

Exactly. If we had been concerned about fuel economy, or what we drove and its fuel economy back when the last oil crisis hit us and stayed focused on that, I believe we would be tons better off today.

Believe me, I understand the need for roomy vehicles in certain situations or the desire to step on the gas and to go and do so in quick fashion. But Ive said it before and I'll say it again I believe we can do those things and still be fuel misers. I do not believe fuel economy and power are inversely proportional. When we start using all the energy of the gas that is sprayed in a cylinder, then yes power and fuel economy will become inversely proportional. Until then, we have a lot that can be done.

back to the add-on kit. Does hydrogen gas have any cooling properties? Would using less gasoline raise the cylinder temps? I only ask because it seems that a large percent of those modding a s/c 3.8 run rich to keep KR at bay.
