HDTV DLP LCD LED RPTV 1080p 720p OMGWTHBBQ!

lol. i've started lookin at a new TV. Pretty much dont want plasma, dont want to have to deal with diming display and burn in... ick

so i was lookin at LCD flat screens, but the reasonably priced sets, (in 40-52 inch sizes) seem pretty grainy and have a decent ammount of motion blur. (the newer 120hz lcd is helping on these though)

initially i had shyed away from looking at RP sets, because of the lamp replacement issue. then, ran accross the newer Samsung sets that are using LED backlight instead of the standard cold fluorescent.

what do you all out there have experience with? anyone have experience with the sammy's with LED backlighting? is there a noticeable difference between the RP sets with standard 60hz vs 120hz?

plasma dimming isn't an issue if you had a tube set (they dimmed also) the samsung led sets get horrible reviews, the 120hz is a sales gimmick (most guys in the business who watch it that can see a difference complain it makes them sick, I see alot of blur from it as if you can see the processing) a plasma also doesn't have the burn in that the media wants you to think (don't leave the set on for 2 days with nothing going on) there are literally millions of plasmas being used in commercial displays around the world, there are very few lcd ones available (the technology just isn't there) if staying under 50 inches don't worry about 1080 either you won't see a difference at a normal viewing distance (you are more than 3 feet back right?) Panasonic and Pioneer have the best plasmas period, sharp, and philips make the majority of the lcd's you see (sharp makes all of sony's and philips makes the lg's) for rptv's the lamp life is still fairly long (we got the equivalent of 5 years out of one on display before replacing the bulb) best bang for the buck though is front projection, and they can now be watched in a fairly bright room (there are even outdoor versions)

i did see that the original lineup of sammy's LED DLP sets werent up to par (the '67 series, with 4000:1 contrast ratio) so yeah, im not lookin at those. however, the new sets that are just coming out (introduced at CES '08 '87 models) are much improved units, easily going up to 10,000:1 CR. I do find it interesting your comments on the 120hz, as i stood this weekend and watched two nearly identical LCD sets, one with it and one without, and could see a difference. (regular video, no not really, but you gotta be watching like baseball or football or racing even... something that moves quick. I could go with a 720p set, but if im gonna spend the cash, it's gonna be a 1080p set. no reason not to. as for the plasma? i watch alot of espn, comcast sports net, etc that always have tickers on top or bottom. even if the text is not the same, the outline itself of the graphic is static. not saying that it would burn in, but dont know that id be comfy with it.

plasma sets have no more burn in than a tube set (the contrast ratio on alot of the new sets is a farce especially the new technology as there is no standard for reporting it) Check out home theater magazine, they do a ton of testing (they just did a roundup of the latest ones and said the samsung still was far from great)
