I'm thinking of getting a project car sometime within the next year if possible. I like the older z24s (1988-94) with the 3.1 and 5 speed and s10s. Found an ad for a 1993 z24 today for 500 canadian that just needs a slave cylinder (i'm thinking clutch slave cylinder) and door and fender and such replaced or repaired. I have seen a lot of z24s with the 3.1 that are supercharged and a few around here with a stage 3 racing clutch. I want to hear any ideas or suggestions you may have on the project.

P.S. - The project will most likely be taken to the track because I'd like to get into some open drags sometime.

Personally, I would build something that is already super/turbo charged so you have a good base. Something affordable and can launch well. I'd go with a 1st gen Eagle Talon TSi AWD. 1990-91 can be found reasonable and they have a huge aftermarket, so parts are cheap.
98 GTP - Autolite 104s, wires, 180* t-stat, fwi, catless dp and plog, glasspack res, Reptile tuned PCM, tinted tails.
    91 Toyota MR2 Turbo - 327RWHP 322RWTQ 11.48@122mph
    03 BMW 325i - tint. stock.

One of my friends used to have a 90 or 91 talon tsi fwd and he found that it was pretty hard to get parts for here. He had to send to Ontario to get a computer for it. I really like talons and eclipses around that period though. Might be able to get some connections for parts from one of the ppl i worked with recently. I know the 4g63 can be built up pretty good. Keep in mind I probably won't have a huge amount of money to spend on this project as I will still be driving my GP and it will most likely be a summer toy.

Oh, didn't notice you are from Canada. Might not be the best idea if its hard to get parts up there. Usually with a CAI, DP, boost gauge and boost controller, you can get down into the 13s in the 1/4 mile. Anywhere from from $500-$1000 in mods. Maybe less than $500 if you build your own CAI and just go with a manual boost controller.

Not if I have to rebuild the engine first. lol. Most of the talons/eclipses i've seen around here for sale have over 220,000 kms on them. What brand of downpipe and controller would you suggest?

    -Update-

Found a 1991 Talon TSI Awd rollover that is being parted out in my area. Drivetrain is good and has less than 100,000 kms on it. Haven't been able to find a cheap car to put motor and such into though.

I'd stray from a DSM unless you like fixing cars all the time. They are pretty mean and run good WHEN something isn't broken. Those things break more than my GTP.

    I saw get a S13/S14 or a early/mid 80's RX7 and stuff a LSx motor in em.

    WIN.

bronzemist - You can just make your own controller. Get a simple 2 way ball and spring valve with a thumb screw adjuster. Get plenty of whichever diameter rubber hose the fittings require. Put one hose on the port of the compressor house and the other on the inlet port of the wastegate acuator. I don't know about the dp brand. Just do some research and see if anybody on one of the forums has one for sale.

DSMs do break a lot. If he wanted a DD I'da never suggested it. I forgot about the 240sx. They are nice to drop the sr20det into. YES, RX7 with a small block V8 = win! I saw one a couple weeks ago driving down the road. I heard a cam loping hard and started looking around there was an RX7 with no hood and some of the top end bulging up out of the car.

I do like the 240sx, but they are fairly hard to find around here. There is an s14 in my town, will have to find out who owns it. Older rx7s are pretty affordable here. I really like the late 80s infini 3 model rx7s. I know someone that has an older rx7 that lives about 20 mins from me. Isn't in the greatest of shape though.

unless you like fighting your build the whole way id stay away from dsm, but if you really want one the only good year is the 91. the 90 is6 bolt also but they have some electrical issues. i had a 91 gsx and i loved it, but it sat in the driveway for most its life. my project choice would be a l67 feiro or a l67 s10 or a 350/s10

Yeah, i want something that i can build up pretty easily and have as a dd for late spring/summer. Was thinking about a 350/s10 combo before. Both the bodies and engines are quite available around here. I've heard that a transmission for a v6 s10 (4.3) will work. Might scour the s10 forums and see what i can find for a budget v8 build or ask one of the people i know that did a swap before. They probably have some engine parts and such sitting around too.
