Not an L99, those are 4.3L LT1's. It's either got the good old 5.0-liter, with 175 hp and 265 lb.-ft. of torque, or the stronger 5.7-liter with 200 hp and 310 lb.-ft. I don't think either are LT based engines..see below:
The L05 (5.7) was introduced in 1987 for use in Chevrolet/GMC trucks in both the GMT400 (introduced in April 1987 as 1988 models) and the R/V series trucks such as the K5 Blazer, Suburban, and rounded-era pickups formerly classed as the C/K until 1996
The L03 (5.0) was the "low output" 5 L (305 cu in) (compared to the 305 TPI LB9). It produced 170 hp (127 kW) and 255 lb·ft (346 N·m) of torque (190 hp (142 kW) at 4,400 rpm and 275 lb·ft (373 N·m) at 2,400 in 1993-1995 GM trucks). This engine used throttle-body fuel injection. The TBI uses a unique injector firing scheme, for every rotation of the engine, each injector fired twice.
thanks man
he said it was the 5.7l the thing is were looking into parts for it. intake manifold, throttle body, whatever. i was wondering what engine i would need to look these parts under.
most likely its a regular 350 with TBI, Car Craft did a build up on a parts truck like that a few years ago. i think they had the thing going 14's and getting good fuel economy. at the time i think gas was still under 2$ though
same motor my buddy has in his. He's doing a 6.0 swap...... hmmmm LS...lol
go with the 5.3 HO, it already has the L92 heads and can be found in a junk yard for under $1000. put a nice little remote mount turbo and there ya go, budget build up for under 3grand
that would be sweet. hes on a bit of a budget now but as he moves up the electrican latter im sure this could become an option![]()
If you are looking to do upgrades then get a set of Vortec heads. Best money you will have ever put into that engine and you wont believe the power gain once it is all back together. Scoggin Dicky sells a ton of stuff for small blocks such as these heads and their own intakes to match them. Back around 97 or 98 I had a magazine that they took an old style mid 70s 350 sb and freshened it up and dynoed it and it made about 250 hp. Then they added the Vortec heads and picked up 80hp! NOT BS! The engine had a good aftermarket 4bbl intake and carb as well as headers and I believe it had a very mild cam, but the head swap was just a head swap with no other parts. I can claim this true because I did the head swap myself on my Cutlass back in mid 98. I picked up .8 and 6 full mph in the quarter just swapping the heads with zero other changes! They gave the engine a lot more all around power, not just topend and really gave it a lot better low end and mid range power which is what a truck needs and also what these heads were designed for. They are cheap and are more than worth the gain in power. My buddy Ryan at Sinister Performance also custom tunes chips for those computers so you may run by some ideas with him and he can help you out with what you need for the EFI end of it.
good info right there. damn my buddy just let go of a vortec motor for like 100 bucks too. deff gonna look into that tho.
