Okay, so I bought a pair of Pioneer speakers from wal-mart about a week ago. As i went to install them, after I had taken everything out, and sodered the wire to the new speakers.... When I plugged them in and started my car in anticipation of the new speakers starting, I realized nothing was coming out. As I plugged the old ones back in, I realized they didnt even work either, and the whole time I just thought they were sounding bad, but that was the smaller speakers. I need to know what this may be, my car has had a lot of wiring problems in the past.... I need suggestions

BTW, have a 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix GTP

    Thanks

Did the original ones work before you put in the Pioneer speakers or did they just sound like crap? Just asking because you could have a faulty head unit or amp if you have factory or aftermarket amps. Not sure which system you have. Which speakers did and didn't work before you removed the factory speakers? Get a multimeter and turn on you stereo and select it to volts, stick the contacts on the volt meter into the contacts on the factory wire plug and see if the volt meter bounces to beat of music. If it does, then you have a bad speaker. You don't have to get pos and neg right, it doesn't matter cause this is just a test. If it doesn't, then you have a bad amp, head unit, or break in wiring somewhere.

I really don't think it was the old speaker not working, i think the wiring is faulty... the old speaker seems fine.

Could be a bad output on the head unit? Is it factory? Genital Motors head units are notoriously pieces of crap. I replace them on a daily basis. CD players don't work, outputs don't work, displays don't work, blown speakers, bad amps, etc. I have rarely however, worked on a GM car with bad stereo wiring. It's usually a bad component. Just my opinion. Hell, the display on my GP head unit doesn't work, and 2 of the speakers are shot, but they still work. The surround is shot around the cones. But on your car, my money is on a bad component, unless someone has messed with the wiring or the car has been in a wreck on that side to compromise the wiring.
