my understanding is that parcel post is a "space available" system... if they have space on the truck, then it goes, if not, it'll wait til there's room. Can be quick, can take 1-2 weeks....luck of the draw.

Depending on the origin of the item and the destination USPS parcel post can take as little as 3 days or as long as 10 days. (Sunday not included).

USPS breaks down travel time and pricing based on Zones, i believe their are 5. SO basically if you ship an item to the same zone as you it will be cheapest and fastest.

Depending on where it's coming from it'll take as long as the mentioned 10 days excluding sunday. From here (MN) to you would take 2-4 business days parcel post. I'm looking at my rates system next to me lol. I work at a UPS Store and we have their rates as well.

And yeah, they probably charged extra $$ for shipping just for a couple more bucks. Easy money for internet sales.

I used to sell stuff on eBay and do the same thing. Reason being is varying price of shipping. It could cost me $5 to ship an item or up to $15 so i would charge $15.
