I'm not a big government supporter, nor am I a big Obama supporter. I don't believe that government has my best interest at heart. I do, however, believe that an educated constituency (which is something we sorely lack in the USA) is essential to making it in their best interests to represent ours.

Consequently, I prefer to discuss and support ideas over people. Most of the ideas brought up will protect patients' rights, make healthcare more accessible, and may (here's mainly where I'm unconvinced) reduce costs.

This isn't a certain other GP forum. Let's try to have a civil discussion on the actual points in Obama's speech or the mechanics of the many bills floating around Congress. The current system is broken. Government played a large part in driving up costs in the last century, but it's not possible to simply turn back the clock. Ignoring the problem won't fix it, nor will ad hominem attacks, straw men, and just plain nonsense.
