I know I went to order a hood and saw that disclaimer/notice. Being March is almost here it appears nobody is going to continue his legacy.

Yup, Rex was a cool cat for sure. I know I miss talking to him, and never met the guy in person before. He knew his stuff for sure.

Hope with his passing, wont mean the end of their business.

Rex passing was a true loss. I've spoken with him over the past couple of years and he was always willing to take time out of his day to answer any questions I ever had.

Thats something you dont see much of anymore. Most companies dont seem to care if you are happy or not. People like REX are rare these days.

I sent MPD an email to ask if they were going to expand their product selection to include the SD hood now that ASCD will no longer be making them. This is their response:

I will let pfyc deal with that, I think the SD hood is ugly.

What a nice responce. "Ugly" hmmm ist only the most popular hood. The only reason I didnt go with it was I wanted my car to be different, but I think the hood looks great. Guess MPD only sells what the pres thinks looks good not what customers want. Nice... another company who doesnt listen to customers?

who cares if he says the sd hood is ugly and doesnt want to make it. he said it right, let pfyc deal with it. i think the sd isnt that nice of a hood as well as everyone and their mom having one. id most definately get a gtx or f1 hood if i ever got one, but i think the stock hood helps to elongate the car.

X2. That evil MPD. It makes me want to give my hood away.

Seriously though, Rex wasn't on clubgp that much. His last post was a couple months before his death. I never heard much more of it but I'm just guessing it was a big surprise for those around him rather than something ongoing. He definitely seemed like a decent guy though.

I probably would have chosen a better way to respond to a potential customer, but yeah it isn't murder either I guess.

Rex was a great guy and I always had good experiences and quality product with him and ASCD (never dealt with them while Dennis was in charge though). He actually was pretty active on CGP off and on for years. Alot of members spoke with him more through PMs, email, shows, etc. Always very helpful and a good guy. Hopefully they start production again or someone else carries it on.

Not the best response from Eric, but if you know him, thats not a shock of a reply.

Eric's a cool guy, and will go out of his way to help out his customers. The GF ordered a F1 through him, and as usual Fed_Ex used it as a parking stop with their forklift. Eric had it shipped back, and repaired the damage and sent it back with the quickness to keep the customer happy. I bought my MPD F1 hood from coltrane when he was demodding a GTP because the orignal buyer changed his mind on the deal, and I didn't want him to get stuck with it. I had it repainted from the topaz gold, or bronze mist color it was to the red it is today.

    Thats my little story.

I was happy with my stock hood as well, and had no real intension of buying an new after market hood, just because they cost as much as a good use car. The reason why I have the hood I have...is because it was a local buy, no shipping, and the price was right. But glad I did buy it...my engine runs a whole hell of a lot cooler now. Only claim from a manufacturer that turned out to be true.

Well I dont know they guy and maybe he just honest to the point he doesnt care what you think. He may be a cool guy. I have just been a bit irritated lately with the general lack of customer service accross the board with most companies. Just seems most dont care what a customer thinks. From the cable company to home depot, to a car parts supplier. Seems these days customer service is obsolete.
As far as hoods, man everyone is gonna have a different opinion. I love the WS6 hood and many people really hate it. All that matters is what the owner of the car likes. If we all liked the same style our cars would all look the same right? I respect any custom work someone does on a car. Its a lot of time effort and usually $$ to do so. Hence my comment that someone addressing a car owner looking to customize and drop some $$, they should cater a bit to that customer to get the business. Thats all, my .02 for what its worth

I spoke with Rex shortly after a few ClubGP members put together a group buy a couple of years ago and while we were talking he said that he used to supply PFYC with the SD hoods but they had a falling out and went with another vendor. His main compliant was PFYC would ship out substandard hoods to the customer and then fight like hell not to take it back if there was a problem. He said their customer service sucked. When he found out that I had bought a hood from them for my SE he wanted to know if the customer service had changed. He was always concerned about the customer's happiness and satisfaction with his products.

I have had bad experiences with PFYC's customer service regarding dammaged product sent to me and missing hardware. Took me months to get any resolution. I ended up stuck with the parts even though they originaly said they'd replace them. They blamed it all on the vendor. Long story short, I got a 10% OFF offer on a new order after many emails and many many complaints. Glad they finally resolved it but it took too long and too much complaining.

I am really hit hard and sadded by the this news... I felt like I knew the guy peronally.. I've talked to him a few times while at Autofair, even before I got the Daytona... I won a hood at Autofair and Rex went OUT OF HIS WAY to MAKE SURE I got the correct hood I wanted. At the time he was out of stock of the SD-100 4 vent hoods when I called him up asking about it. He set to work and molded a hood just for me the night before I was to go to Maryville, TN to pick it up from his shop!! He had it ready to go on the GP late Saturday morning after John Kanaly and I made a trip up there to have it put on, Rex also had one of his workers come to the shop that day to assist in getting the hood installed and aligned on the car .

He DID NOT have to do all what he did!! I was and STILL am more than grateful for all he done that day!!! I will never forget what I great guy Rex Orr was! This Buds for you Rex!!!
