Okay. The valenine one may be a great radar detector, but IMO it is overpriced for what you get. I picked up my passport 8500 X50 used for $150 and absolutely love it. Thats $350 cheaper than yours![]()
i love my v1.
My friend had a passport 8500
ended up selling it for money but when he had it we put my v1 and his 8500 side by side
Every time my v1 went off it was another 15 to some times 30 seconds before his went off.
On my way to alanta once they had those your speed is things. my v1 saw the things almost 2 miles away.
I also like my v1 because it is HARDWARE upgradeable for when new stuff comes out. All other companies are software upgradeable.
Only thing that sucks about the v1 if it is hot outside you better watch out because of the metal case
My $50 Cobra FTW. It beeps when cops are around.
I have Beltronics 65RX Professional Series detector I got off eBay. Its basically the Passport 8500 knockoff. Cause Cincinnatimicro, who makes the Passports, bought out Beltronics and makes all their radar detectors now.
So far its been pretty helpful. Saved me a few times for sure!!
My GF has the Escort 8500 and I have a V1, the V1 is way better any day of the week. I use the V1 not only in my car, but in my work truck too. I drive all over the state of OK on every kinda of road (about 5,000 miles a month). I don't trust the Escort like I do the V1... As a matter of fact my V1 is due for an upgrade but I don't want to send it in because I don't trust the Escort as much. I'm going to have to do it sooner or later.
Don't get me wrong, the Escort is good, so are many other detectors out there (I used to run Walmart Uniden specials and they worked well for being cheap!) but once you have the best its hard to go back. I saved up and splurged one day and got me one, great investment thats helped keep my record clean. Plus upgrades are cheap...
HANDS DOWN: ValentineOne. you can pick one up on ebay for pretty cheap compared to a new one.
I like that v1 is registered to you if you buy it from v1 (only authorized way to buy it)
SO if it gets stolen and you call in report it its on a list. So if the person who took it is dumb enough to send it in for upgrades or what ever V1 Always runs a S/N check on it when they get it in. So if they get yours in that you reported stolen they will send it back to you.
Hopefully TooMch will see this thread. He has the V1 and a Passport or Escort. He has both for different reasons. Wished I could remember why though.old age FTL
best one out there is the bel rx65 9as tested by a few different places) the valentine is about 3rd place, and the boggy detectors false alarm quite often (according to testers) the escort ones are horrible (slow reacting)
I've owned a couple of expensive radar detectors, but the best I ever owned was a Cobra $50 one, back before Undien bought them out. Someone stole it out of my vehicle along with a few grand in test equipment. I sure miss that radar detector.
Yes the V1 will go off more often if you have it on all bogy mode. This mode brings in any signal and lets you decide which one is the threat.
Then there is Logic which still brings in all signals but does full volume to the ones that think it is the real threats all the other ones get sent to muted volume.
Then there is Advanced logic, Filters out anything that is not a threat and only allows threats through.
but if it's set to filter it losses a ton of sensitivity (according to the tests)
i run a beltronics and it gives me a good amount of warning. been ayear since my last ticket
to filter out the unwanted the system lowers sensitivity (that is how all radar detectors work, city mode is just low sensitivity) I can only say in tests that the v1 did not perform as well as others (it failed against my bel remote mount in my car)
The best bang for the buck radar out there is the cobra 9330 i got mine over a year ago for 90 bucks new from target and its picked up a cop as far as a mile away.
from my selling classes I had to attend (I am a dealer for a few of the big companies) they all say the same thing, it lowers sensitivity to certain frequencies(also note the last hardware update on the V1 as far as I can find and as far as the testers can find was 5 years ago software gets updated, but it won't help with filters)
