Re: What was your first impression
I was getting my first car :D Was looking at auctions with my dad but didn't find anything. One day my dad calls me and says, "You want a Grand Prix? It's fully loaded?" I said sure, not knowing what to expect. I got home from work and saw it. A silver 02 GT 4 door fully loaded with 113k miles which my dad paid only 4 grand for. It had some nice 18's on it and was really clean. I took it out at night to see it real quick, put it in nuetral and heard that engine.... Looked at my brother and said wow this is gonna be a nice car....
Now I want a GTP but am gonna miss the GT from what I've done to it (Going to my brother)
Re: What was your first impression
Knew the car since it was bought in 2001 brand new off the lot with 10 miles. I was 9 years old. I grew up everytime i went anywhere with my grandma I would have to ride in the back seat. Well when I turned 12 and the sticker said I would ride in the front, oh man I was the coolest kid on the block. When ever one of my friends would be with me and she would come by I was so proud that my grandma drove a sporty car. I turned 16 and drove a 94 exploder for a month. (I miss the 4x4 sadly).
The next month I bought my first car, a 98 Grand Am GT coupe. I bought it for $2,400 cash all my own money. (started working when I was 15). Drove that and beat it. I put some money into it such as tires and what not. I cleaned that car up painted the dash then my sister-in-law got a job as a graphic designer for the local news paper which ment I got free ads.
I put it in the paper for about 2 months and got maybe a call or two. After 3 months it was around the end of January I got 2 calls for it. One person drove 2 hours to see it with his 16 year old daughter. They liked it and went home. I got a call again the next day saying they want to come and buy it for $2,300. While they were on their way I got a call from another local guy wanted to come and look at it so I told him someone is on their way to buy it, I will call you back if it falls through. I call back the out of town guy and told him I can only take cash, he said he was unsure if he could get that much at the time of night (after bank close), so I told him I will give you till 8 to call me back other wise a different guy wants to come and look at it, he said ok. So I called back the local guy and told him to go ahead and come and look at it. He came by with his 16 year old son. He wanted it, and he wanted it BAD. He asked how much the other guy was going to pay I said 2,300. He put on my counter 2,350. I said I really cant do that to the other guy, I can call you in the morning and let you know. He procceded to put down another $100. I told him no I just can't, I'm not that kind of person. So he said okay and left. The other guy came and bought it that night.
I had to drive my dads DD (exploder) again for 2 months. It was a fun 2 months though. I loved to drive it in the winter with 4x4. In this time I drove her car about 3 times with her in it, I liked how it rode a lot but I couldnt see what it had with her in it. My grandma decided to buy a new car (I knew it was coming thats why I sold my GA). Once I had the idea that I was going to buy it I fell in love with the looks. So she took her sweet time looking for a new one, about 4 months. Part of the way into I was looking at other cars and I was debating if I really liked it. Well I held out mainly cause my dad is strick with the car I was going to buy. She finally decided to buy a 09 Impala. She told me the car is mine if I am willing to pay what she would get for a trade in.
Well $5,600 later in cash the car was mine. I drove her nice for about 3 days until I just had to floor it and see what it had. Thats where I went wrong. I got addicted. I can't get enough of my GP.
Long story but I love my car :D
Re: What was your first impression
nice novel stunt! should have scored that extra 150 =] haha jk i dont think i would have done that either man nice "NOVEL" ha
Re: What was your first impression
Bought the car a few months before a graduated high school...she only had just over 40K on the clock and it is a '03 Blue-Black Metallic GTP Sedan...let me tell you how hard it was to find a GTP withOUT a HUD...I have ADD and that thing drove me NUTS!! The Dodge Dealership that had it was asking $14,700 for it...I LOL'ed and got it for $10,000 even plus my $300 '86 Buick that I traded in that had a hole in the hood from where I rear ended a lifted 'Burban. She came with tinted windows AND a K&N Drop in Air Filter...so fast forward two weeks and I bought a EBay "cold air intake" and the rest is what you see here. And once it is paid for...which I finally decided...I am buying either a '04 CTS-V or a New Gen STS-V with the Supercharged Northstar...because this DD Cobalt is KILLING ME LOL
Re: What was your first impression
oold thread but oh well i feel like i should add =p
well last year i was thinking about buying a new car, and my friend had an 88 IROC, man that car was mean. so i was looking through one of those used car books and i pointed out an iroc to my father. he said hey thatd make a nice first car dont ya think? and i was like hell ya! soo for MONTHS i scanned ebay for the perfect camaro (that was in my price range-5k) well eventually my mom (damn her lol) deceided i cant have a rwd car becasue i wouldnt make it home in the winter, due to the heavy snow we get and the fact that i live on a mt. anyways i was PISSED so i began my search for a fast, nice looking, fwd car. on the way home one day i saw a grand am with a ram air hood and i liked it. so i went online and went to google, when typing in grand am, grand prix came up first so i selected it by accident.
that was the best accident of my life...i fell in love, the looks, the hp numbers, oh they were perfect! needless to say i asked immediatly and it was deceided i shall own a gp. it needed to be black, with black leather, and with the 3800 not 3100 engine. after months of searching i settled for the silver gt i now own. first time i rode in it i was with my parents and i couldnt exactly floor it...but the next day i deceided to see what the old girl could do....hell ****in ya haha my pedal was quite stiff at first so when i first went wot it felt like...idk i cant describe it haha she wasnt as fast as my old maxima but had some speed =)
i love my gp haha
Re: What was your first impression
I had a s/c rental few years back, I like it but not how fast the gas gauge fell to E, lol. Never thought about it until I found my 2007 last month. Needed a car and had help to get one, test drove a base, lease return I think, certified used GM vehicle and I had to have it, after...errrr... getting the proper permisions I drove it home with in a week. I want the turn/fog lights, one of my mods)when I can and I like how it sounds for a V6, I am older and all the mods and speed are not my thing anymore I find it to be fine the way it is, of course I will do some mods when I can, window tint, K&N drop in, fog lights, etc easy simple things. I am partial to V6's anyway and I like how it drives and handles so again no real mods for me
Re: What was your first impression
Went from an 89 Supra Turbo to it so it was ehhh... the HUD was nice and having a vehicle from this decade was a plus. Plus it was a lot more reliable so I'm okay with it. Would have prefered RWD though.
Re: What was your first impression
soooooooo smooooooth. couldnt even feel the gtp shift. made u sleepy. and boost.... well.... what can i say.....
Re: What was your first impression
well i went from a slow a** chrysler sebring to this so i guess it was like a step up and my first time driving this i was like wow not bad for a 4 door se but it left me wanting a gtp, the only thing i miss about the sebring was the amazing handling and the sun roof
Re: What was your first impression
i remember the day i got my gtp i was looking in the paper the one night for a used car and found a tiburon (rice i know but they look nice) so i went that night to look at it but they were closed so i couldnt get a good look at the interior. on my way out i saw a beautiful silver car on the end of the front line and it caught my eye. so the next day i went back i didnt even look at the tiburon i went straight to the grand prix gtp comp G and its now sitting in my driveway:th_laugh-lol2:
Re: What was your first impression
i shouldnt have test drove mine because when i did i fell in love with the torque and smooth accel. not to mention all the options
Re: What was your first impression
I was tired of seeing this car sitting in my uncles neighbors yard for 2 years, then this spring I asked him if I could buy it off of him and he said yes. Once I got the plugged cat replaced I liked the car 1000 times better than I had imagined.
Re: What was your first impression
how many lights does this thing HAVE?
Re: What was your first impression
Well I decided I wanted something BOOSTED. I really wanted a white WRX but then came the decision to sell my truck and make this new vehicle my DD and it has to fit my two kids in it.
Well then became a toss up between a GTP or a GS Regal.
I had one of each to go check out. The GTP was asking 1,500 and a GS that was asking $1,300. Small budget but didnt want a car payment... looking to buy house soon. Plus I'm an mechanic so I can fix any problems.
So I decide to check out the GTP first because it has a few mods already.. ported/polished supercharger and Thrasher CAI.
MY FIRST IMPRESSION..... THESE THING IS A POS!!! She has about 20 dings and rust bubbling under the gas door. All I thought to myself was the underside must look like death cuz she has 160k on her.
Well after checking everything out and noticing the undercarriage was mint, not a spot of surface rust and not a single fluid leak could be seen, I decide to test driver her.
Holy ****! This car screws and there is enough room in the back sit to have a orgy in. End up offering the guy $1,000 and getting her for $1,200.
I have done quite a few repairs to make her road worthy to my expectations considering I have two young daughters that would be riding in this thing. But all and all I'm under $1,700 deep into her including the $1,200 I paid for her.
So far I am totally pleased with her and I'm in love. I think in the future I might spring the bucks and get a newer one (01-02) with less mileage.. perfer something under 100k, maybe the special edition gtp cuz i love the interior in those.
Re: What was your first impression
Well when i picked it up it had no brakes, lol. Well it sort of stopped, but I traveled 418 miles to get it and wasn't driving it back like that. So all new pads and rotors + oil change and air filter. 70k on the dash.
The remote start and HUD is cool. I liked the acceleration for a FWD car. It's an easy car to drive, and has good visibility. Fantastic inconspicuous daily. I replaced the coolant, s/c oil, p/s fluid, trans fluid, and headlight assembly since... Easy car to work on so far.
This isn't the type of car I would dump tons of money into simply because it's not the best looking car and resale value would be low, but it's pretty cool. I'm going to sell it come spring time unfortunately, so if you guys want a clean car that has been properly maintained let me know.
Re: What was your first impression
well i sold both my wrx's so I could pay off some of my wifes medical bills! I bought this car cause my grandfather lives in georgia and comes up here to indiana about 3x a year and always talks about how reliable and good of an engine these cars have. He drives a buick park avenue with a series 2 3800 engine. It is by means no wrx and doesnt handle anything like my wrx's did but it was cheap and it does the job. I dont expect I will own it for to long as I miss awd and quite frankly this car seems like it was built very poorly! The car does the job but the fuel gauge it kinda screwy (goes up and down whenever it wants) and the temperature gauge has a mind of its own also!
Re: What was your first impression
1st car I have ever kept over a year or two. I knew when I drove it I was going to by it. Love it!
Re: What was your first impression
It was in 96 when I drove my first 97 GT. The dealership had just gotten it and I recall driving and everyone staring at the car. Like WOW what is that. It was awesome to have so many people staring at my car. I bought it and got took on the deal but didn't really care. The car was mine.
Re: What was your first impression
when i test drove it i fell in love. took it around the block and on the way back gave it a little gas. it needed/ still needs alot of work bodywise and some engine but for a first car i love it handling and all. i have a 2000 SE. ugly and not the fastest but its mine! i wanna do a se to gt body conversion once i get the money
Re: What was your first impression
getting my GTP was about 4 yrs in the making, i had a friend in tech school who had one and i wanted on so bad but couldnt afford it got to drive a couple others while working at a dealership that year, well i joined the army and got married so i had given up all hope. i went to a guys house to take a look at a nice set of snap on tools and box that he was selling and when i walked into his garage there she sat. i didnt even car about the tools anymore, i asked what he was doing with it he said he had been trying to sell it for a while needless to say i cam home with a car instead of a toolbox. my first actual thoughts were this car is the perfect balance between power, style and luxury.
