Advice on moving out of state

I have been born and raised in NJ. Obviously..I am comfortable here as far as a job, home family and friends. I love the fact that we have 4 seasons and there is usually somewhere to go.

Unfortunatly..the cost of living is very high and I am having a hard time getting ahead. We don't spend $$ friviously and we live within our means. Yet something always pops up wether its car repairs, medical bills etc... While I know that sort of thing doesn't change when you move out of state, the cost of living should. I talk to my neices who live in FL and they have been workng at a resturaunt for the past 5 years, own a home, their S/O owns his own resturant now, have 2 beautiful children and are now buying their own business all at 27 years old and it kind of gets me down.

My husband can get a transfer thru the post office anywhere and keep his same rate of pay and if we did move to FL, I could have my choice of working w/my neices at the salon or at the resteraunt but I am not thrilled at the idea of FL. I was looking more at the Denver/Lake Norman area of NC.

I dunno..I have 8 months until the lease is up on our house ( unfortunatly my friend moved out so now we are stuck paying too much rent..lol) and am seriously considering leaving NJ.

I was just wondering how many of you guys have relocated and do you ever regret it. Also, any advice you have would also be appreciated. Thanks

I have never relocated but check out SD. Low cost of living, low crime in even the biggest town. Most towns a fairly small but Sioux Falls is the largest with about 135k people. 4 seasons with cold winters and hot summers. I honestly love it here. In the small towns everyone knows you and gets along. Around here if you have $300,000 you will get a pretty nice house. Even with half that amount you can purchase a nice new house. Just an idea.

in the mid-west housing is hella cheap compared to the east coast, like tco said.
its not bad in Fl either, but hurricans are a constant threat to those people. like tornados are in the mid-west.
but whatever your choice if you move be prepared for a big change in weather compared to what your used to.
Ive been all over the lower 48 and I can tell you I wouldnt move north b/c I hate being covered in snow and salt.
southern states the heat and humidity are competley miserabell in the summer.
but personally I think Florida would be your best choice for your lifestyle, just going by what you said.

im looking to get out of Florida. its to hot here and are seasons go from hot to hotter back to hot. me and my wife have lots of family in new jersey and in pa. were looking at moving to philly. we want the different seasons

I ll admit..the seasons are great here. I would definetly miss fall and some of winter. But honestly it is crazy expensive here. My husband and I have 0 chance of ever owning a home here..property taxes alone are about 8500 for a decent sized house/yard.

I am always moving with my job and have found that I really like the rocky mtn region. colorado, idaho, and utah have been my favorite. All three of those are big enough states that it all depends on where you live for what you'll get. I lived in Conn in 96-98 and moved to northern Utah and was glad I did. The only down side was the cost of moving.

its never really easy to move and leave what you know but sometimes its the best thing. If you dont like insane humidity and heat fla is out tx wasnt bad cost of living or weather. were probably moving to or when we ae done with school.

Just do some research and jump in both feet

I don't know how keen you are about living in smaller towns or how big of a town/city you are looking to move to. What are your hobbies? How important is schooling? Do you want to live in the country and do outdoor activities or just live in the city and hope that the town has something to offer? You can get a 2000 square foot 3bedroom/2bath house for 150K new here......and we have four seasons which allow for different hobbies..........snowmobiling, skiing, snowboarding, jet skiing, boating, along with hunting/fishing if you are into that and also car racing in the summer and snocross/snowmobile circle track racing in the winter. If you live here for a couple of years you will get used to the colder temps if you let yourself. I think that is true anywhere. Also......some states do and do not have state income tax. You may want to look at this as you will get some of that money. The property tax on the house listed above is usually not more than 2K per year and people are friendly and the taxes are low..........tell us more about you and your families lifestyle(you would think that I work for the local chamber of commerce.)
