    That info is based on a one time engine build for a pace car from the late 90's that was used at indy. The sheets I saw were strait from gm the articles were from gm. and the car that the 280 hp LQ1 was in that was used as a pace car was a monte carlo z34

    Okay back on topic, would there even be turbo's available if it wasn't for the GTP?

    Also i know the 88-96er's hate it when you call them pre gen, they prefer 1st gen. What do you call the grand prixs before 1st/pregen?

    they would be what is it 3rd or 4th gen, earlier ones are 1st or 2nd, the fact they went to fwd is not a new model it was an evolution

    So in conclusion I would like to say that, it would not be what it is had it not been for the supercharged 3.8.

    Thank you and good night.

    those are not first gens by GM only by people who forget the GP existed for 30 years prior to that, and they still didn't have the following the sc cars do

    Well, each line of sports car kind of has it's "flagship" or stand-out model per se...someone said earlier on page one, I'm sure they would've done something to bring out a model for the enthusiasts if it weren't the GTP...maybe

    They were however first gen Wbodies. Pre 88 all GPs were RWD. Thinking the 88-96 isnt first gen of anything is kinda like saying my Regal is just like a GN.

    Not a bad article. I do however hate the fact that just because a LQ1 would make 280HP everyone thinks the L67 would never come out. You have to remember, the GPX was going to be rated at 300, and we all know how much higher they can go. However, just like the LQ1, it was cut due to the transmission.

    Gen1 = 1962-1968
    Gen2 = 1969-1972
    Gen3 = 1973-1977
    Gen4 = 1978-1987
    Gen5 = 1988-1996
    Gen6 = 1997-2003
    Gen7 = 2004-2008

    The G8 is like the eighth gen Grand Prix and the G6 is like the sixth generation Grand Am. I know, no relevance there, but still interesting.

    Thats why pontiac named them the G8 and G6. I just stated that 88-96 is called first gen or "pre gen" since it was the first gen of Wbody in a Grand Prix.

    i've gotta agree with fish on this one... when we're talking 1st gen/2nd gen, we're pretty much referring to the W-bodied cars.

    There were only a few thousand turbo GP's from 89 and 90 and a bunch of those are dead now. If you see one in good condition with low miles you can expect to pay a lot.

    I think that the Gp would have done a lot better now days if they kept the two door.

    My parents owned a Turbo GP and how I wish I had some foresight then. I would have bought that thing from them and put it away or made it a garage queen. That thing was a beauty to lay your eyes upon.
