Our old L67 swapped 95 Grand Prix went very consistant 12.7s-12.8s on slicks and drag radials and it only dynoed 280whp/290wtq . A good friend of mine only dynoed 260 HP and with slicks on his car we got a 12.77 out of it once but ran very consistant 12.9-13.0s. I honestly dont think much of dyno numbers because a dyno is more of a tuning tool than for comparison and I have never seen two dynos read the same. For example a few years ago we had 3 shops with chassis dynos. Two were using Mustang dynos and one was using a DynoJet dyno- that is where we go to dyno but they have recently sold the dyno. The DynoJet numbers were ALWAYS at least 25-40whp higher than the Mustang dyno numbers which really pissed off a lot of guys going to the Mustang dyno! A good friend of mine only put down 380whp in his Camaro on a local Mustang dyno yet he runs 11.3s at the track on drag radials in full street trim and another friend of mine with a mustang that was running mid 10s didnt even hit the 400whp mark on that same dyno so after one pull he told the guy to shut it down and take his car off, he was very mad to say the least! This clearly shows that dyno numbers dont mean squat sometimes. It is a good tuning tool to make changes the same time the car is strapped down to tune and get HP improvements. If you go back a different day the weather will likely be different and the car will put down different numbers regardless how much supposed compensation there is built in to the dyno. I feel that an honest 325whp would give you solid mid 12s on drag radials with decent track conditions, not a one time or one night fluke but every car is different and this is just based off of what I have worked on and seen at the track over the years.
Supercharged 3800s dont make high HP numbers but the torque is what makes these cars run the impressive numbers that they do and traction and driving skill makes a huge difference in times at the track. About 7 years ago all of the fast guys in the community were dynoing in the 340-350whp range and running high 11s back to back with track prep but a lot has changed since then.
As far as LS1 cars, there are a lot of them around here too and they definately are impressive engines and nothing I would ever knock no matter how many there are! There was a point in time when the 5.0 Mustang era was huge around here and thats what everyones thoughts were.... "Theres another bolt-on Mustang biigggg deeaaallll" I honestly dont have much of any interest in most V8 stuff anymore because of the potential of these 3800 engines especially with turbos and all I can say is To Each His Own. Everyone does their own thing and at least in my mind I could care less what someone else thinks, I build my car for MEEnjoy what you have man, there are tons and tons of upgrades out there for the LSx engines and at least you are rwd! A few years back a friend of mine had an 01 WS6 TA with the ram air hood. The engine was bone stock and he installed long tube headers, new air box lid and filter, 175 shot of nitrous and a custom tune and the car ran 11.9s at 121 on drag radials and would eat faster cars up top on the street. I always felt the engine was a ticking time bomb but it never skipped a beat and in my eyes that is pretty insane to get out of car with next to nothing done and some spray! Another local had an 04 GTO with the LS1 and had a 150 shot on it and ran 12.5s at around 116. Both cars were autos with stock rearends and drag radials and both were nasty on the big end so if you planned to race past the 1/4 on the street you were usually in trouble lol.
