Red Devils are kinda like oscars and piranhas mixed, especially when they are under a year old sometimes 2 years old at most. They are messy, they eat alot and they prefer live food and can attack/kill a fish bigger then it. They are known to fight oscars as well.
Once my tank gets over its bacteria explosion ill post pics. keep in mind this is a kids tank, with dads help.

I have a 90 gallon South American Cichlid tank. I'll try to remember to post some pics tonight. Jack's are South American BTW. I have two Jack Dempseys, two Green Terrors (my favorites), one Green Severum, two Firemouths, six Convicts, two Emerald Corys, and one pleco. Right now, I have about 100+ Convict babies, but they will likely get swallowed up by the other fish since I have no intentions of keeping them.
I've always used under gravel filters with twin powerheads. Has always worked like a charm for me. Cichlids like a little salt in the water, so don't forget that.

All fish benifit from some salinity.
Are you sure you dont want to seperate the convicts, thats decent money. Discus are much better money but convicts are hard to find up this way.
You cyclid guys should ditch the gravel and get sand.

I had a green Severum, albino oscar, jack dempsy and i forgot the other fish i had in there but that tank was mean as hell but they never went after each other i was surprised that even the severum held it own

I would love to go with sand but not sure how well that would work with my undergravel filtration.

Ok now here is my issue, wtf are these white dots, I dont have a super hi tech mega wow zoom or any lens, its a 7.0 mp canon so I cant get too detailed with the pics. They are white in color now and sway with the current, yesterday they were tiny specks that didnt move. Its not staghorn algea and doesnt appear to be brown or blue/green algae yet.
as well some weirdness, im not sure if its flakes or sand absorbing the decor color or what.

As for the undergravel and sand, aint happening, even power filters( hang offs) dont stand up to sand, canisters seem to be the only filter that handles sand just fine.
( sucks at 2am when the impeller in a penguin seizes and sounds like a kangaroo getting tortured)

3 red tetra things
1 silver tetra w/ red tail thing
1 dying lone guppy( the other 5 bit it during the bacteria bloom)
2 cats spotted
1 rainbow shark
1 black kuhli loach
What size is your tank? canisters are very affordable for 55g and under tanks, 55+ should use a 350gph+ unit. Marineland makes a hot magnum that hangs off the back yet is a canister filter however, discharge and intake are in the same place like a power filter making them pretty much useless filters as far as whole tank filtering goes, with a floor canister you can have your intake and discharge on opposite sides of the tank as to get 100% water filtration, similar to what you have now however with a canister you wont have an inch of dookie under the filter plates.
I am thinking of a fluval unit this summer when I possibly convert to brackish water.

I can't see the picture cuz my phone isn't loading it... but when you say white dots I think of ick. If that happens to be what it is there is chemicals for that.
I'm thinking of getting a tall tank and getting 2 discus and 2 angels... any suggestions

its weird, I think its transparent in its early stages, when the light goes off it turns a shade of green just like the plants and background., i dunno the rainbow shark and cory's have made trails in it already.

Sorry fresh water guy's. The salt water guy is here. This is of my 29 gallon reef a cupple years ago that at the time was about 2 years established.The fish you can see are Damsels and clowns.
Cool thing is not a darn thing in there is fake. Sorry thing is after the move the tank has been sitting empty for over 2 years. Just have not gotten back into the hobby...YET!

very nice TDC... acually I was just walking around a fish store today and I'm thinking of starting 2 new tanks in the coming weeks.
One I want to go brackish with puffers and silver sharks... always loved that....
The other, and I would appreciate any info, if an anenome tank. I always thought they would fil, just heard horror stories, but apparently theyve been better in captivity. I'd really like to get a ritteri and some common clowns, maybe a clam, and maybe some other types of coral and anenomes...
Other tanks that interest me are Sting Rays, Electric Blue Jack Dempseys, Discus and Angels...
Apparently Electric Blue Jack Dempseys ar non aggresive and can be put in a tank with almost anything... they had some good size ones in a tank with neons and angel fish, they were very calm.
Anyone ever had a white lobster as well? I've read lobsters and crawfish only live about 2 years in captivity...
I think I'm going to stay away from the Sting Rays for now... I had 2 montoros about 3 years ago in a kiddie pool and they grew to a pretty decent size before I sold them. I liked them alot, but I didn't enjoy the constant water changes, 2-4 times a week, and they were such messy eaters thats the water was so dirty all the time. Still were gorgeous.

Man, you just can't compete with the beauty of a salt tank! just my opinion.
I'm gonna be setting up a small aquarium for the baby's room to keep him lulled... (yeah right)
A friend of mine is hooking me up with 2-3 convicts, see how that goes....when we move, I'll probably set up my 50 gallon again and go with something more elaborate. I just don't have the room for anything right now in this little house.

I searched criagslist and OMFG you can get all kinds of coral and fish for cheap. I see clownfish, damsels, tangs, triggers, etc.. given away for free.
I love Frogspawn and Zoo Coral and found a bunch that are huge and being sold for $5!

Yeah, And the good thing about it if you know anyone with any hard corals you can ask them to break off a peice....get some glue and glue it down in your tand and BAM....You now have a new coral growing.
Works for some soft corals too. Just make sure the're attached to a rock or something and don't glue them down lol.

I have a question... I really want some frogspawns, but I'm not sure I should mix them with the ritteri anenomes?
I'm thinking if I have a 55 gallon or higher tank I can easily keep them apart.. but what about a 20 gallon long? I know I know it's too small for a ritteri, but I plan on starting small and when it grows too big I'll move it in the future.
