Oh yeah I know, I lived in a few places for about 6 years without an ac, never again. Trying to sleep when it's 80*+ in your house was a nightmare, and I hated opening the window in my room at the one place because the interstate was about 50 yards away, beging of August was really bad 24/7 motorcycle traffic for 2 weeks.

i got a line of sight to the hwy, all summer long i hear bike throttles cracking wot ripping up and down rt 46. that i can deal with.

then theres the real dick heads who drive down the road i live on, theres two brick buildings, and they lay on the limiter the whole time at the red light like its the greatest sound ever....guess what, its not that great sounding.

i agree, ac is a must in summer, cant sleep for crap in the heat.

all portables are loud, but work ok.

all comes down to how large a area you need cool, some times 5,000 btu wont cut it for a real sunny room that soaks up heat. if th echart says you need 5,000, get 8,000. how i roll lol 1- pr 12,000 btu units really crank.

I bought a portable AC about 5 years ago for our apartment. Just used it in a 18×12 living room. Throw a blanket over the doorway to keep the cool in and it's a comfortable 73. Think it was a 12k BTU. It was a bit noisy, but made things much more comfortable. I've got central in my house house now. I set it for 76-78. May seem high, but it removes the humidity from the air. I need to upgrade my AC though because I've got the old style which cost a ton to recharge compared to the new refrigerant.
