Seems like there are a few paint and body guys on here. Has anyone ever tried auto body filler on a steel garage door? Thinking when it warms up I could throw some filler in there shape it up. Add some texture somehow ( dry roller) and paint. It dents would be barely noticeable.

    Thoughts??

Bump. No thoughts here? I may give it a whirl if it warms up in the next 2 weeks. Never worked with bondo but can't hurt to try. You cover it with rollered latex paint so how bad could it look.

Didn't see this earlier, sorry. Yes by all means bondo works for paper thin steel. It is porous as heck though so you'll either want to use some kind of primer or maybe just paint the bondo spots, let dry, then sand them and fade out another coat over and around it so it blends in. Sand and clean good before bondo so it will stick for more years.

Ok. Just painted the doors last year after the hit, so matching will not be a problem.

Thanks for the thoughts. Any idea on getting texture in bondo. Smooth with a blade and then roll with a dry roller to get some pattern?

You'll want the bondo smooth. It will be smooth after you shape it. Get your texture by using the right paint roller for that and doing multiple coats over that spot. I'm not much on house painting. But I do figure you'll want a finish coat over the whole door to even it out, even if just for texture.
