I loved my 99 GT coup, but rust murdered it. When I started looking for a new car i found a local dealer who had just (that day) taken in an 08 GXP, 72k on the odometer for 5k. I showed up the next morning test drove it and loved the car. Don't misunderstand, when people ask about the car I tell them it is the embodiment of stupidity, 8 cylinder front wheel drive on a transmission designed for a 6 cylinder with 4/5 the power. The seat is obnoxiously high, and it can't keep rear speakers, I've put 1k on it and already need a transmission. For some reason though, either the lines of the car or maybe just the driving experience, I love that car.

And much more expensive. Im still cheaper than a CTS V and have equal power
You can find CTS Vs for 15k. I wasn't talking about a newer one. I was talking first gen.
How many miles? What did you do to it?! I am pusing ~550 whp and running into the mid to low 11s and its happy as a clam.
and why would I want a Gen 1 CTS-V lol, I'd rather have my supercharged G8 any day
I think when we start comparing Grand Prixs to G8's and CTS-Vs etc... It's like comparing an Apple to an Orange. Let's not forget the Grand Prix is a FWD platform. This is one of the main reasons I'm sticking with mine for now. It'll go threw the snow and rain with no problems at all and that's what I need when the Weather turns bad here in STL. I've looked at new Camaro's, G8's, SS, CTS-V's, ATS-V's, I cringed at the thought of trying to drive one in the Snow with a 31 mile commute 1 way. Not too mention the sticker shock I get with the 2016's. Heck putting the replacement motor in mine was less then I'd pay in Tax on the purchase of one.
Lol. I replied but I don't know where the reply went. Lol
I'm not sure exactly. But... The shift times are still the same. Converter unlocked, can't put too much power down. All 6 forward gears slip. Lock converter, it holds. I'm at the Ocean city Endless Summer Cruise. Imma take her out today, lock the converter in 2nd gear and see if she hold. If so, the converter is done. I got the converter for free so I'm not too upset. No trans slip shudder either. Heck, I'd rather replace the converter than the trans anyway...
yeah?!? well we're pushing over 600 whp and ran low 11's once and its on jackstands with the trans out for the 11th time.....oh wait what were we talking about again?
....if it wasn't gonna be a ***** to rework the hotside /turbo stuff for the larger 4t80e id have kevin swapped in a heartbeat....but if I hear him talk about making the regal RWD... one. more. time. imma kill'm
I figure matt M and dave/greg will be interested int he fixes I engineer for the 4t65e....
hell im ready to machine custom roll center adjustable lower monoball joint with pins....aside from the CC plates/etc ive made for this heap
but...its a heritage car...its worth it, plus I gotta admit that I was more worried about the engines low oil pressure but it held stable the whole evening even at multiple 26psi runs....the trans however....
my new baby soon is the new chassis for the 442....awww yeah
You know... Some people SWEAR by the G8 in the snow. I will tell you this. I drove mine ONE TIME in the snow. My trans shifts so firm that it kicked her sideways. Luckily I didn't have far to go that day. I will never do that again. That's what I have my K1500 for. I won't even chance driving the GTP in the snow anymore. When she was my only car, she took me thru a few snow storms. But naw. The way people drive in the DMV (DC, MD and VA area), I'd rather take my chances in the truck... Lol
I just had a flashback... I'm old... Lol
Who remembers when John Moss built that FWD Impala with the LS motor? LS and a 4T80E?
If they (GM) listened to him and built the 94-96 Impala SS, why not with this example. When I heard that the GXP was getting a 5.3 and the 4T65E, all I could do was SMH. What in the heck was GM thinking? Stupid trans can barely handle 240 hp and 280 to... Now you want it to hold 300 HP and 320 TQ? Sheesh...
I know, they say with a good set of All Season/Snow tires they'll do just fine, but I'll stick with my FWD GTP with Michelins for that. I see way too many RWD's stuck or in the Ditches off the side of the road during a Snow Storm here in STL. Granted most people here in STL freak out when it Snows and have not clue on how to control their car in the snow.
at least they improved the ls4 65ehd hard parts somewhat...
unlike you quitters.....some of us are working to make the W more viable
imagine if the 7/8ths chainset could handle power across its full face/link contact surfaces....talk about reliability increase....
