Cool details on the tranny...

I think if I ever did a l67 buggy it would be rear engine and a 5 speed.
I have actually seen guys use the stock trans and mid mount the engine inline to drive the front and rear ends, pretty neat in a really light crawler. I have a bunch of friends that are really into rock crawling and trail riding and they all have crazy rides.

I have no idea, all of my friends rigs are scratch built, even the old one from Monster Garage I worked on was sent out to Alabama and the suspension redone. I stripped out all the wiring out of it except the Pro Flo fuel injection and rewired the entire thing and made it street legal. The others all built their own chassis's, I just wired them.

Same here, most of my friends build from scratch. Lots of makers of frames out there. Better to buy a rig that is built then tweak it.
Yeah the guy that bought the Bronco that was featured in Monster Garage paid a lot for building it, and I didn't charge nearly enough for rewiring it, then he sold it so someone in Ohio for 40K. I thought that was crazy that he could get that much for it, but it had a lot of expensive parts on it and it was freshly redone so I guess that's what a built one will go for.

Here is another 3800 thread for 4x4 rigs

Pretty neat stuff there...
probably would be cheaper to swap a 5.3 iron block ls engine into it, because where I live one of those can be had for 600, while the L67 engine is more than 1000
Is all about the low end torque.
If that's the case, both would be even if it was a 5.3.
280 ft/lbs at 3,200rpm and 335 ft/lbs at 4,000, the torque curve on the V8 at 3200 should be equal or slightly higher than 280 already.
Or slap a 6.0 in there and have 360 ft/lbs at 4,000.
Yeah but isn't a 6 lighter ?
im not a expert but the articles you guys post here told me these reasons they chose the l67 supercharged
Actually they are pretty similar is weight. If you have a aluminum 5.3 it would be a shade lighter, they are 80lbs lighter give or take.
A iron block 5.3 is roughly 350-375 dressed out, a 3800 is about 300lbs without everything attached. Figure you add some pulleys and what not it's still around 340-350lbs at a guess.
Hmm. So the supercharger isn't an advantage in a rock crawler ? Lol I have zero knowledge when it comes to those
Tons of different vehicles.
Many early flex fuel silverado/sierra/tahoe/suburban/yukon around 04-06 got them, the trail blazers/ saab 9-7x SUV got them, buick rainer because they are lighter and had DoD/AFM is those suv's. The first year in them didn't though, so 2004 or 2005 I think.
Past the GEN 3 years, like almost all the trucks started getting aluminum motors. Likely the most common AL block is the LC9 like I have in my truck, the 2010 I owned and my parents 2012. They still made an iron block but I guess it was kinda phased out and was mainly just there for the 6.0 in the work trucks I think.
Not really, it's all about gearing in a crawler. So many guys use the 22R 4 banger from toyota just because it's a bullet proof motor. Like 5.xx gears with a double low low transfer case, you could walk faster than it would crawl type of gears.
If you want to do more trail riding that covers more distance and higher speeds, then you'd want a bigger motor and that's where it would be more helpful. I tuned my old co-workers 5.3 swapped rock crawler because he wanted bigger power and for trail riding and not just climbing things. But when he is ripping it up, the extra torque is really helpful from the V8.
