lol yours starts quicker than mine. If I prime the carb it takes about that long. Then of course it starves a couple more times. no choke over here, don't work. You got a lopey cam in that thing?
All Grand Prix, all the time. 69 Model J, 99 GT & GTP coupes. All junk, haha.

Sounds like your choke isn't working. Do you have a Quadrajet or the 2GC?

Even on a manual choke'd 350... it was two cranks and it was up and running. I'm in agreement, choke issue
I drink..so consider that when reading my posts.

Pretty soon the motor and everything on it is going to get replaced. I am getting a 350 small block for it with a new carburetor, new intake, new headers, and a couple others small things.

Does it have the high idle solenoid on it, I had a 78 GMC Diablo (Still an A/G body) for a very long time and most of the time when I worked on any G body the thermostatic choke was out of adjustment and most were missing the high idle solenoid. I know everyone calls them Quadrabog or Quadrajunk, but if you understand them they are really good carbs. That said I never had to deal with the extreme cold you guys do, most of our winter consists of mid 40* temps, with the occasional slightly below freezing days. I switched over to a Manual choke Carter/Weber/Edelbrock Carb and never used the choke, I would just start it up and hold it at about 1K for a few minutes until it held when I let off the gas.

There is a setting on the side of the carb for adjusting the choke. Iirc there is a middle setting and hash marks for richer or leaner and a heated tube that passes into the manifold with a couple tubes that enter the front and rear of the carb. See if everything is there still. You can add a relay to turn on the solenoid to hold it at a high idle when you start the car. It's the same solenoid that is used when the AC is turned on.

good old 80's crap is the problem here. never liked or owned a 80's car for a good reason, obd1 sucks dog balls.

that whole auto choke deal, ive seen just take a crap too. or a busted vac line. inside is a coil that can break. like a pull start coil on a small engine iirc. its been years since i had to play with any of that stuff.

Yup, I still have my OTC Monitor 2000 from way back when. I don't recall and it's kind of fuzzy but 84 may have been the first year of the computer controlled carburetor it had a solenoid that would adjust the mixture at idle it had a little blue connector that drove the solenoid I want to say my Mom's old 84' Caprice Estate Wagon (complete with woody wagon side stickers) had it I know 87' they all had it for sure.

scott you know whats really funny the "automatic" choke they used in the 80's was nothing more than the manual choke with a "fancy" electrical plug on it.
