K then... so I took the GT out with 91 in it and did some monitoring just now. Anybody wanna guess/speculate about what KR on a GT might be?
With 87 you might get like 9° lol. Maybe 13. So less?

Its so similar to the GTP that it made me feel better somehow. Because its not all because of boost. If the GTP ran at the same temp as the GT, the KR might be exactly the same. I was seeing 4-7 but not instantly like the P does. Fuel trims very similar, etc. If you take away the vacuum / boost gauge and went by just the monitoring of timing and fuel, it might be hard to distinguish one from the other, even at WOT. It just doesn't make sense to me but the butt dyno can't argue.
Its just such a far reach from the standard 9:1 compression iron headed carbed V-anything recipie. 36-38 total, 11-14 initial, all in by 26-3200 rpm and use vacuum advance for load and centrifugal for speed. So simple but I can't seem to translate that into EFI terms.
Abnormal combustion does that. I just don't see how it makes sense to build engines for fuel that isn't available. If it was tuned right in the first place there would be no need to retard. Timing, to me, has always been something you sneak up on, work up to it carefully. Not something you pile on way too much of then compensate for after it has already allowed preignition or detonation.
I understand that. What I don't understand is the theory behind GM's approach. Take damage then compensate rather than avoid damage in the first place.
Well kr has to be a thing no matter what. For safety of the engine. I don't know how much they thought it would knock stock. That's the question

I was suprised to see that the N/A numbers are the same as blown. How does that make sense? It must mean neither one is knocking in the first place. If they did knock every time right before you see the retard, thats a lot of allowed knocking in my opinion. There should never be any.
you need a ride in one with some mods and no kr then, you think 3 degrees less kr feels good, zero is really great.
rockers killed 5º, just a U bend delete killed off my last 3º. on the stock tune still. felt like a new car after that.
Yeah I do need to I guess. I do have no u-bend already. If you had a 455 powered 69 GP in your yard though, somehow I doubt you'd be playing with TinkerToys when Lincoln Logs are right there. I believe the GTP is great right where it's at. Crap, it freaks me out a little at times with the power, and I never run short of that. All I have to do to beat the frustration of ingorance is to just drive and not monitor.
Why the GT and GTP have such similar KR is something I may never know. I thought it was more of a thing with the blower.
The timing I observed really wasn't any different from GT to P. The only difference I could tell was of course the no boost, but aside from that engine and trans temp was the only difference I could spot. The KR might average 2 less on the GT and it is bone stock.
