so let me get this straight, you're just going to be dropping the whole motor in? not a top swap? why are you not buying a cam?
Guess i was just trying to be minimally invasive, and also maxing my budget as is. Plus i wouldnt know where to start w/ a cam...unless I had help...hint hint...lol.

I would still change out the tired valvetrain anyways. New stock timing chain/dampener. LS retainers and either l76 or ls6 springs, and new valve seals

Sigh, more money. And it wouldnt make any dang sense to put the upgraded cam in when I have to pull half the valvetrain to put the cam in...right.

Incorrect.. It's not a bad job especially if you do it with the motor out. Hell I did it in my driveway through the wheel well area and only took a couple of hours.

And if you've done a lim gasket job before it's only a few more steps past that.

Yeah, when I said "half the valvetrain" I meant taking off rockers, pulling rods and lifters...I've pulled the front cover too so I know how much fun that can be. I guess I'm just more hesitant from the financial aspect of things. Already looking at 150 in improvements to the trans, 200 for exhaust headers and now potentially another...200-300? for a cam and other parts. Going to have to take up a second job again like I was talking about before..lol

Well, unless I find a HUGE sale, I'm just going to have to wait on the cam upgrade. As much as it would be nice to do it with the car out, I just cant push to afford that right now and I want to get this thing on the road. I'm going to keep shopping, maybe I'll come up w/ a deal.

i think for now you'l be happy with just a sc engine and tranny in there. its a up grade all on its own.

i was just speaking from the mindset that everyone has "plans" that end up getting changed later down the line for more heavy modifications. happens literally 75% of the time someone does a "build".

i agree bio, it always seems like a good plan if the funds are there to do so. much easier to install all that go fast stuff with the engine out.

he can get that vette in a few years to make up for it lol

but if he wants to just drop the motor in and get it all running well for now, then modify it later, he'll be no farther behind than anyone that started with a GTP from the beginning. working on these cars is cake.
