Do I have to mark where the fly wheel lines up with the torque converter before I remove the engine? Looking for a quick answer, project in progress...

    Engine is out.

I follow instructions, like a good boy, lol.

Borrowed engine lift leaks, praying it doesn't drop on my already messed up bumper.

Junk... Except for the upper half. Keeping my modified LIM, lifters I put in and a few other goodies.

Time to clean it up and hopefully drop the new one in next week.

Thinking since I'm going to be dropping in a new engine, I might as well go supercharged. I'm guessing I should make some improvements to the transmission sooner than later then. I planned on a shift kit but I think I've read about a hardened 4th gear? I'll have to read into that more.

the 4 th hub is worth doing, they are cheap enough too.

98 Buick Regal GS, F body brakes, Caddy STS wheels, tinted tails L36 bottom end, lightly ported heads, 1.95 roller rockers, headers, gen 5 N* 3.0 pulley, FSIC, 42 lb injectors, a BrandonHall rebuilt trans, DHP tuned and AEM water/Meth injection https://goo.gl/gpV5kW

Hmm, ok Scottydoggs and REDCOMPG, could you each briefly sell me on which to go w/ super vs. turbo. Project difficulty, additional mods I will need, total approximate cost and approximate horsepower benefits out of either. I'm thinking Turbo will be beyond my reach financially.

    Turbo > topswap.

Obviously turbo will gain you more power but it's a bit more complicated over a topswap. You want to know what your doing and then there's the tuning aspect and let's not forget your going to want a built trans to handle the power and that's going to cost your $2k-3k+ and a turbo set up isn't going to be cheap unless you happen to find a deal and can modify things yourself. It's not as plug as play as a a Topswap. Topswap on the other handle will yield less power but it's unless your trying to get past 300-350hp it's a great bang for your buck. Usually you can piece everything together that you need for $500-800 you won't find a complete turbo kit for anything near that price. Transmission can remain stock but of course there's always that chance of something breaking. There's plenty of information on topswapping on here so it's takes a lot of the guess work out of it. You can then build it up more and go cam, IC, e85 etc if you desire more power but remember the eaton blower kind of maxes out at 350hp. Overall you'll probably be happy with a topswap and it won't break the bank.. Unless your desiring a full brown racekar and drop stacks on a turbo kit then I suggest that and you can find topswap parts locally usually at the junkyard, Craigslist, the forums etc

Or if you really want a project...

From what I heard it was an ls7 or de stroked ls7 and 80mm turbo and put down 800 and some change at the wheels.

I kind of thought turbo was more HP for more $. Wish I could spend it and wish the car was worth it. At this point I'm just looking for a Supercharged junkyard engine to drop in. Going to make sure it's mechanically sound before I buy it and then break it down a bit and touch it up before I install it. Then once the bank account recovers I'd look at upgraded cam, rockers and pulley and maybe some other small improvements to try to secure max HP.

It is... But when your spending $2-3k+ on a turbo plus that just on a transmission... That $500-800 top swap doesn't look so bad now does it.

Found a local guy that builds engines. Says he has a SC engine for me at 450 and for an extra 100 he'll switch out the SC and give me a ported LIM and SC... Jump on that deal?

Me too. Lol. Talked to him really briefly tonight. He wasnt at his shop. I believe he said the block was from a 99 GTP. He rattled off a bunch of details about the supercharger but my kids were mobbing me for fathers day so it was hard to hear. I hope to get better details tomorrow. Compared to other stuff I'm finding in my area this seems good for the money but again, details are needed.

As I'm preparing to possibly go supercharged here, is there any other preparations I should be making to get ready for making the switch? Poly engine mount? Cold air intake? Stuff like that.

    Headers

All that other crap can wait until a layer date. Obviously make sure your mounts are good and make sure you figured out the PCM/harness issue when dropping in a sc motor.

Motor mount doesn't look terrible. I was just figuring since I'll have the engine out and can bolt it on it might be good to just do it now. I'll look into the headers.

It's easy to do it anyways when the engine is in the car... When you do have to replace them so it's your call.
