Been on the site for a little while now and thought it was time to put some pictures up. I bought my GTP last fall and basically just used it to get around CMU and back home some weekends. Now that it's warm, and school is out (for the most part, damn summer classes) I wanted to get into making it look a little better and go a little faster.

It's got about 180k on the odometer but it runs and shifts great! Some rust on the rear fenders and trunk lid is starting to become a problem but nothing that can't be fixed with a little work. Rear strut mounts were crazy bad but I'll go over what I did there another time and you can all have a good laugh about it. I'm admittedly not the best at body work, but if I can stop most of the rust I'll be happy. Fortunately POR15 is black and so is the car..!

    Here's some current pics though:

    When I first bought it

    Just washed (current)

    Some hood chips

    Trunk rust

    Fender rust

Good news it it's got the metal LIM gasket!

We now have two GTP owners at Autozone

Also, anyone else on here from Traverse City Michigan or the area?

Almost forgot! I bought a set of polished torque star rims for $100 so I can see my painted calipers better and keep the cross lace for winter tires. If anyone's got any suggestions on cheap summer tires LMK!

I'm so glad i have 5 pic and pull salvage yards within thirty miles of my residence. That i almost always eventually find what i'm looking for. I bought 2 torque star wheels about 3 weeks ago for $38 bucks a pop that were in immaculate condition..not a scratch on them. They're really $50 a pop with a $12 core charge.

Wish I was that lucky, the pick n pulls here have nothing wheel wise that would even be worth looking at.

That rust is scary. Otherwise I love GTPs.

Rust has disappeared (at least the stuff that's not under the car..) Took the wire wheel to it, naval jellied, than painted with Chasis Saver. Next will be Bondo to smooth it out then primed and painted.

Question though. Do these cars in black just use the universal black when matching with Duplicolor? And is there a clear coat on the original paint? I want to blend the repairs as well as I can just using rattlecan paint and am not the best at bodywork outside of rust removal, which everyone in Michigan gets a good amount of practice at...

Here's what it looks like right now:

    I would get GM black.

Black shows every imperfection. I would use like a sandable primer to get everything perfect. Then a couple coats of color then clear coat.

After a week or so wet sand with 2000 and put some dish soap in the water. Care full around edges you will eat up the paint fast.

Then polish and wax and it should look pretty good.

Hopefully the last of the ugly pictures, these are the rear strut towers... They have a few pieces of square tubing welded between them and the rear dash (only one visible, others are covered by the foam). Got the welding done for free by a friends uncle who welds in construction and has for many years. Basically I ground as much rust as I could out before welding, slathering it with chasis saver, filling the big gaps with Great Stuff and seam sealer, then undercoated the outside. No water got in this winter and everything still looks like the day the job was done. May not be a pretty fix but it works!

    Let the chastising begin! lol

Really no one has anything to say about that? lol Anyways....

I'd been planning to do a transgo kit with my fluid change. No codes or anything but shifts are a little sloppy and slow imo. However someone I work with who ownes a built gtp said not to unless you have a code or if the trans is having a hard time shifting into 4th. Now Idk what to do, should I do the shift kit or just a fluid and filter change?

Haven't updated in a while so I thought it was about time.

Projects all done now but here's the fender Bondo'd up and almost ready for paint:

AAAAAND, here it is all finished in some pics. I took these a week or so after paint, the day I polished and waxed the whole thing. I'd say it's looking pretty good!

You can tell the fender's not perfect at all, but it's much better than before

Biggest thing I don't like appearance wise now are the water filled head and tail lamps... Have to see about getting new ones.

Did my first drag racing ever! It's an 1/8 mile strip and I averaged 9.9 secs @ about 71mph. That about average for a stock GTP? I know most people run 1/4 mile but it's the only strip close to me.

The one race I won was against a V8 swapped S10 with drag radials! Was pretty proud of that. The losses were to a modified GTP, brand new STI, and a Camaro.

I get this noise and vibration when i give it decent throttle from a stand still, I've narrowed it down to the exhaust hitting somewhere when the engine twists a little too far from torque. The engine and trans mounts all look ok to me. I know shorter dogbones from a Montana will keep the engine from moving as much as it does, are those something that could fix my problem possibly? Is there any negative to using them besides more engine vibrations being felt?

What did you use to paint it? I don't have any rust on the fender, but the paint is pretty much gone and is really noticeable compared to the rest of the car.

2003 SE TONS of Mods= New O2 Sensor, New Headlights, New EGR Valve... About 345whp

Duplicolor perfect match universal black and clear coat. Very happy with how it turned out even with me being no expert in painting or using body filler.

Haven't updated in a while. With School going and it being winter I can't do too much. Got back to it this spring through:
    -SLP CAI (thanks Reptile!)
-TransGo Shift kit with new cooler lines
    -Spyder headlights
-Had to rebuild the SC snout so I painted it read while it was off with some extra caliper paint
    -Fixed sagging drivers door

I also just bought a ZZP downpipe that I'll be putting on before too long and after that I plan to get a tuned PCM. If I'm running KR free after all that I'd like to drop to a 3.5 pulley. HIDs I think are going to have to go in these Spyder headlights as well.

Im also looking for a black hood in good condition in the Detroit area. Mine is full of little cracks and the paint just keeps coming off it.

The engine bay definitely needs a good cleaning!
