unlike you guys i don't really sit on my computer most weekends. i go out and do things.
headers are in. a few random, terrible pictures.
cliff notes: it begins, manifolds out/ARP studs in, headers in stock exhaust uncut, headers in up top still disassembled
i was afraid of it being too loud at first, but after i got it all together and ran a couple of heat cycles through it i am thoroughly satisfied with the end results. it now sounds like an LS engine, got minimally louder, and feels like i've gained some power under the curve.
the tune is scheduled for wednesday evening.
Video?
My DLSR takes good movies, yours should too, oh and subed for awesomesauce. Got to look at some supercharged V's last Friday, I just drooled.
DLSR video of mine
Nice to see it. I'd bet connecting the pipes took longer than the rest of the install.
for some reason GTOs always sound...different? i don't know. they just don't sound like every other LS. mine sounds exactly like a Z06 now.
eh, not really. i made two cuts on each pipe. one to get them out of the way for the headers to drop in where they were supposed to and one more to get them to length for the connecting/cat pipes.
i think the longest part was going up/down while we installed the studs and headers themselves. then the next longest was fishing the stupid wideband wire through the firewall. that was hell.
overall we took our time and made sure everything was fitting correctly. the car was up on the lift a little before 10am and i drove out of the shop with everything wrapped up at about 3pm. not great time, but i wasn't trying to be fast either.
if i would have done it on the floor of my garage, or even the floor of his shop with the 'right' tools, it would have taken twice as long. the lift was a great help.
the best part of having the headers installed is that despite peak horsepower gains it feels like i've made some significant gains under the curve. rolling through the gears casually i tend to gain more mph than i want now. it'll take some getting used to. the next best part is that sweet, sweet noise it makes.
yay, mods.
