Re: 2000 GTP: I Can Jump Myself!
I only have 2 pics from the install, but there's videos on youtube if you are really interested in it. This is how far I tore the compressor down to:

This is how I ended up pressing the new coil on. Heating it up got it about 70% of the way on there, so I knew it was on there straight (not bound up). I probably would still heat it first just to make sure it's started on there correctly. 200*F for 20 minutes. It's ceramic so don't hit it was a hammer. If you choose to still want to hit something, use a flat blade on the INSIDE of the coil, it's metal and not ceramic.

Also Make sure the plug for the coil is point right about 2:00. The case of the compressor has a little bit of a relief for the coil's connector. When putting the pulley on, if the coil isn't pressed all the way on the pulley won't go on all the way. If you clean the compressor with a scotch brite pad or some sand paper, the pulley will slide right on. No not for it. If anything, heat it up a bit too (200*F for 15 minutes). If the pulley isn't going on, chances are you don't have the coil on all the way, and if you hammer on the pulley to try and get it on there more, you'll crack or break the ceramic (the pulley will be hitting the ceramic). I ended up with about .040" of air gap, and it worked great.
Re: 2000 GTP: I Can Jump Myself!
Sounds like one of those times when putting a part in the freezer would help. I bet both mine need that fix.
Re: 2000 GTP: I Can Jump Myself!
If I could put the compressor in the freezer maybe, but it was 30*F outside so it was pretty cold already, lol. It's for sure one of those things that I could do again rather easily, and I'd bet I could have just replaced the bearing and called it good. Other than the bearing my old stuff didn't looks bad at all.

True, true!
Re: 2000 GTP: I Can Jump Myself!
Well not much as happened with the car the last week or so since I've been back at work. I live a mile away from work so I rarely even drive it to work, lol. I do have some progress pics of my ported TB. A good friend of mine is doing the work, and I think it looks fantastic. I'm really excited about it. I think I'm just gonna hold off on anymore MAF tuning until I get this thing.

After filling and some 80 grit:

Ran into some porosity, had to fill it so filler is setting up (for 24 hours) now:

Oh boy oh boy oh boy!

Re: 2000 GTP: I Can Jump Myself!
Right, I'm not going to want to put it on the car, it's too purdy!
Re: 2000 GTP: I Can Jump Myself!
That is purdy! I had no idea you could cut them back so far. I'm thinking it ought to make a detectable difference. Must study this, it makes sense.
Re: 2000 GTP: I Can Jump Myself!
That's another thing. I have a friend at work (who I've mentioned before a year or 2 ago) who owns a 4 bay shop down the street from me with a lift, TIG, and a full machine shop. He has anything and everything I'll need to port and rebuild heads...including a FLOWBENCH. The plan is to test out this ported TB, throw it on the car, then test my stock TB. It'll be nice to have some concrete numbers between the 2. My buddy told me I can use his shop whenever I want, and he'll help\tech me along the way. We've had similar talks like this before (a year or 2 ago), but he's comes over to the house and hung out a bit lately and I've shown him Alldata and other various things I do with computers. He wants to learn and I offered, so he brought up the offer of using his shop again. FINE BY ME!!!! lol.
Re: 2000 GTP: I Can Jump Myself!
Heck yeah that sounds like a perk you can use! Get after it.
Re: 2000 GTP: I Can Jump Myself!
Oh it's tax season, it'll happen. I've (we've) come to the decision that we're not going to move for at least another year. I'll be at my job for 5 years so I'll be fully vested, and possibly get a promotion. The kid in me is hoping that this buddy from work will help me get into maintenance at work too, that's something like a $6 an hour raise.
Anyways, transmission rebuild is first priority with taxes. 7\8" chain (2.93), 300m IS, 2400 RPM TC, all new clutches, all new bands, all new solenoids, you get the idea. I'm hoping I can track down someone that will let me borrow\sell me the tools to replace the seals, but I'm going to wait until I have parts ready for installing. I'm also hoping I can find a 300m IS for cheaper than $420, that's a bit steep.
During that time I'll be going to the JY to source parts, and I'll pic up a set of heads\LIM for porting. Once transmission is up and running focus will shift to IC and ported stuff.
Re: 2000 GTP: I Can Jump Myself!
I'll be at five years in March but it only means I'm a dumbass. Hell I thought you just went through that trans.
Re: 2000 GTP: I Can Jump Myself!
I did, but even before I started the actual process I said (to the wife) it was more for me to get the experience and to make sure I could do it all. I am going to use the valve body and channel plate I have now (along with with the hardened 4th shaft I have now) once I go through (or replace) the separator plate. It has plenty of Sonnax stuff in it so it'll be right at home.
Basically I didn't replace the frictions and bands when I did the transmission the first time. I stacked them up differently to have a tighter gap, but didn't replace them. Originally I was going to fully rebuild it the following tax season, but since the engine didn't get much loving last year it got put off to this year. Now that I'm tuning, have a ported TB on the way, planning on porting heads, getting an IC, etc. the transmission will need some loving to handle the added power. As you know, I'm a fan of overkill. I want my transmission to be able to handle a LOT more power than I can produce, so I can trust it.
Re: 2000 GTP: I Can Jump Myself!
Alright then... you ain't got a hair on yer ass if you don't 4T80E it. Ha! You want one, don't you? Naw, I know... if that, then why not the V8 with it and then why not just buy the car with all that in it. Hey, your practice trans works! That says a lot. Just testing your overkill instinct.
I was able to make it about halfway on this, maybe you can get farther in-

Re: 2000 GTP: I Can Jump Myself!
Sometime when I have an hour to kill and want to hear Ben Stein's impersonator lol. 4T80E would be nice, but that's a bit too much overkill for me lol. This will take anything I can throw at it and then some, if all goes well.
Re: 2000 GTP: I Can Jump Myself!
Its like a Ben Stein and Steven Hawking mix. lol

Re: 2000 GTP: I Can Jump Myself!
Lol, I only made it 23:07 couldn't make it any farther. I thought it was going to have something to do with the 4T65E. Boo

Re: 2000 GTP: I Can Jump Myself!
Well it is about glass transmissions. But yeah how nice would it be to have the right gear for eight occasions?
