Re: Starting to build up the intrigue, finally
Okay cool, sounds good. Thanks again.
Update : Car starts up and idles great. Tune that's in it is good. When i attempted to perform the first drive with the new drivetrain I quickly realized I did not have reverse. So after taking a break and stepping away from the car for a bit we started troubleshooting. First step was to verify we had the correct shifter linkage. The purpose was to see if the car was in between gears. Linkage was good so now the plan is to attempt to remove the reverse servo to see if the reverse band is engaging the pin. Since the header crossover pipe is right over the top of it the removal may be difficult. Worst case scenario is pull the trans. Hope that's not the case. Trying not to let this setback get the best of me.
Re: Starting to build up the intrigue, finally
To add:
Tried to push the car in nuetral before it had been started and it took three guys to push it on a level surface.
With reverse selected on level garage floor the car does move backward, yet appears to free rev when throttle is applied
With neutral selected on level garage floor the car again moves backward and free revs with throttle
With any forward gears selected the car does not move forward without throttle, same level garage floor.
My thought is the band popped out of position and is partially wedged or somehow making contact with the reverse drum, causing partial and weak engagement in all gears. In theory when the foward band is applied, the reverse band is holding the trans back from moving forward without throttle.
Re: Starting to build up the intrigue, finally
I assume this is a built trans that was installed with the new engine setup?

Mental Alchemy Max; make a positive out of a negative.
Between you and Bill, you can have the tranny out in no time...and you have the PCM tune situation worked out it seems.

Yeah, the whole thing was refreshed; new clutches, TEP valve body/channel plate, 300M IS, Precision TC (stock), ZZP pump shaft, 7/8" chain w/ 2.93's, etc.
Thanks guys for the comments. Hope we get it all fixed tonight (assuming we don't have to pull the trans).

Dave, are you saying "the bolts won't fight this time"?

You made yourself a transbrake
I hope it all works out I road in the car when it was N/A can't wait to see it boosted
Re: Starting to build up the intrigue, finally
Well, we easily removed the rear servo and after comparing a spare trans on the shelf (yeah, pretty sure there are three spare 4t65e's in the garage lol) we verified that the band moved on us. We were unable to get the band to move into place so we began to pull the transmission. Won't be touching the car until Saturday so if all goes well with the teardown we may have it running the same day.
Before the teardown.....

Thanks, don't worry, I'm just looking forward to making the fix, getting it back together, tuning it, dynoing it, and making people give me the WTF look when they get beat by an Olds Intrigue LOL...

You might not be. Best of luck, keeping me from having that trans laying on the floor before you arrive on Sat.
For those of you at home, watching the show. The cradle is ready to yank out. Then it's starter, TC bolts, diff to engine bracket, backwards bolt, trans lines and lower it out. This isn't the same way you'll find the write up on it. The write up has a bit more safety built in for a first timer. This is the way we flipped Ed's car from dead to test drive in 3.5 hours.
Re: Starting to build up the intrigue, finally
Lined up a helper for tonight, he won't be working on a shed tonight if he's at my place.
You might find the car parked outside if it gets fixed before Sat. If it's still inside, that means I left work for you.
Re: Starting to build up the intrigue, finally
Anyone else have a strong urge to drop a car off at bills with a trunk full of parts and hope it will magically apprear sitting outside the garage ready to go hunting some stop lights????
Can't wait for this to be done getting the WTF look from some mustang owner or something would be priceless!
Re: Starting to build up the intrigue, finally
There's one outside right now like that. Which is why Max's needs to move.

I plan to help with this car next week. I think it'll get done quick as usual too.
