So, since my build sucks balls, and Brian's turbo build also wet the bed, I moved on to the next project and also one of the last things I will do in my time left in MA. The story behind this wonderful 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood Hearse is Brian maliciously overheated it on the way back from a funeral due to a failed water pump. I put on a new water pump and did a tune up. Stopped the overheating, but the car still had a miss. After a bunch of research, I found a lot of issues with the head design causing misfires and such. So, we tried seafoaming it. It didn't help either. So, I figured it was definitely mechanically related. Did a compression test. Found low compression on cylinders 3 & 5...which is odd because the computer said P0307 (cylinder 7 misfire for the noobs.) So, it came down to either head issue or head gaskets.
I wanted to make it super awesome like LT4 heads, headers, big lopey cam and supercharger. He said no. So, we (by we I mean he) decided we would just replace the heads and all the other needed stuff. He got a killer deal on a set of aluminum F-body heads, so that's what's going on.
First thing...here's the LT1 and the epic amounts of room there is:
So, tearing this thing apart isn't exactly easy even with all the room (no air tools...get an air compressor Swigglet!) and it took me the good part of a day to get to where I am now. Pandora streaming on my phone was helping take my mind off everything until my cell phone died. Guess who forgot his wall charger? Well, when in need, improvise!!!
Car charger plus battery charger for vehicles = charged cell phone. Set the thing to 50A and watch the battery life go up in a hurry! LOL
So, I had to run to the auto parts store to get fuel line disconnect tools (you owe me $10.29 Brian) and got the intake off. Once I got that, it's just typical disassembly BS. Someone has either messed with the engine before or the LT1 is having Ford issues because one of the exhaust manifold bolts was broken off, but that's ok...I'll get a replacement bolt. I then pulled the head:
See the problem yet? No? Well, how about a different view you blind bastards:
So this is where I left off today. I didn't sleep a lot last night and I've been pretty stressed so I called it an early day. Tomorrow, I'll get the other head off and get to reassembling.
