screw driver trick works. once its striped you still need to get it out, so go for it.

you just hammer it in till its in the hole, dont smash it through. you want it to come out as one whole part.

so pretty much hammer the ends of the flat head into the sides to create a groove along the walls so it has something to bit on and twist?

yup, find one thats a bit larger then the hole thats there, wedge it and tap it in with a hammer.

if the screw driver has a hex handle at the bottom or top on the handle, use adjustable wrench on it to turn the screw driver while you push it down in the plug.

alright ill give that a try in a few, thanks scott. Also, I've seen a thread where a guy here didnt take the alternator off. He just removed nearly all the SC bolts, then left one on and pivoted the snout up and over towards the back of the engine back and left enough room so the couplers showing. Going to try that if I can deal with this plug problem. I'll have to get it tapped out and a new one on though for the future.

i left my alt on, pretty sure i did. dont for get the straight down bolt in the rear side of the snout.

and that belt, i turn the tensioner as far as it will go, use a breaker bar for leverage, then slide the belt off the tensioner pulley, then take it off the sc pulley and let the tensioner go.

Ya we just used a 15mm wrench and another big as wrench and used that as a breaker bar lmao. The belt was just on so tight, theres no way pulling it off the SC was gonna work so ya, had to inch it off the smoother idler or something.

i always just slide it off the tensioner pulley, it then hits the socket, or wrench, but gives you that extra slack to get the sc pulley off. i put it back on the same way..

i must say tho, the 3.4 pulley and a stock belt comes off like butter now.

Lord, pulling the belt off with a bigger belt and the 3.4/5 was a cake walk lol

yup that idea wasn't working. Going to have to have someone drill it out and get a new one.

hit a junk yard or dealer for a new plug first, then you can drill and use a easy out or extractor of some sort.

Which I don't have, but yea i'll go look for some.

parts stores sell extractors, they are cheap.

I work at a GM dealership, im sure a mechanic has one. I wonder if they have the snout plug in stock at the parts department however.

ive had better luck at buick dealers for the sc parts around here. the local Chevy dealer was like wtf is that? then they looked it up and were like dont carry that here.

It's a buick gmc, previous pontiac. We have biggest parts dept/service dept in the area. So I'll have it this week, then hopefully get the plugged replaced and tackle it next weekend.

So I got the plug for the snout from my dealership. The part number is gm 24500661. It didn't look exactly like the one on the car in shape. But I sized it up and this replacement is just a hair smaller than the stock one. Anyone confirm if this is the correct replacement plug?

Ya I just don't know if they changed it up for replacements after they had the stock one on. Cause it does look different and slightly smaller. Would hate to have it drilled out to find out it doesn't fit

you cant judge a plug with a plug still in the hole. get the old one out already. new plug will fit fine im sure. dont you trust the dealer? lol

I'm just going based off the looks here lol. Will get it done Friday and will tackle the coupler saturday/sunday
