    Hey guys,

I am relatively new to this forum, but have been a 3800 enthusiast for many years. My current DD is a 2005 Bonneville SLE which I have done lots of mods on and preventative maintenance. Pictures of it are shown below.

My g/f has recently picked up a 2005 GP base within the past few months. It was purchased from an older lady so it has its usual bumps and scrapes. Nothing too major which I have slowly been working on fixing. She got a steal of a deal on the car which is now nearing 81,000 miles. Mechanically I have given the car a tune up (plugs, wires, O2 sensor) and been doing regular oil changes. On my to-do list is a trans pan drop with filter, and flush the coolant and add standard green.

    So on with the pics..

Most recent "appearance" mod. Im slowly trying to convince her to let me do more mods...next she wants is remote start after driving my car for a couple days..

    Some pics of my car..

Now back to the GP...as I mentioned before, we recently swapped cars for a couple days as I was tracking down the correct O2 sensor for her car. While driving hers..I noticed a couple things..

First of all, theres a clunk in the steering wheel when turning. I assume this is the Intermediate shaft which is common on the Bonnevilles too. I greased mine, and it corrected the issue, but mine wasn't as bad as hers...what do you suggest...greasing or replacing?

Also, she is kicking around the idea of a remote start. Her FOB has the button for it, but its not activated. Does her car come equipped with the module and hardware, just needs to be programed by dealer? This was the case with the GXP bonneville, and was hoping the same for hers...

Any comments or feedback welcome..sorry the cars are dirty...

    Thanks!

HAHA, yea, she's my baby. Took me 4 months to find that car since I wanted the 05 SLE (didn't want GXP with northstar V8) and wanted to be a GM certified used car (within 5 years old and under 75000 miles). This one came into dealer with 74,664 miles and was very fortunate to get my hand on it. Have been loving it every mile since and were closing in on 104K!! NEVER getting rid of this car unless unfortunate accident takes her from me...

Am I able to check this with only the 3 button DIC? If so, whats the procedure?

    Thanks!

Headlights looks awesome! I like both cars, especially that Bonne! You cannot disable the remote start on the DIC. If she has a CEL on, the remote start will not work. Don't know if she does or not, but just throwing out the idea. I know my '05 Base had remote start w/ no issues. If you know someone with like a Snap On Solus or something higher end, you could try to reprogram the fob yourself.

Negativeone - I think what I need to do is reprogram her remote. I noticed that the only button working on her FOB is the trunk release. The door lock and unlock, panic button, and remote start button are all not responsive. Are you familiar with what the procedure is for reprogramming? Did a quick search but didn't see anything with the newer generation...

Couch - Those head lights actually came from Negativeone who had them painted. The headlights make the front of that car look so mean. The actual clear portion (where bulbs shine though) isn't touched at all. They simply look tinted over entire lense due to no light entering from the sides.

On the newer generation, the only thing you can do is hold the lock+unlock down while pointing at the car for like 10 seconds maybe longer. I did that to mine and it worked fine after that. If that doesn't do it, then you will probably need it reprogrammed. And the lenses are actually tinted, just very very light.

No sir, housing is sanded down, black paint laid down, then a clear mixed with a candy is laid down. No tint at all, straight up paint. The candy give the tint and brings out the black even more.

Yonkerse, open the remote and check the three solder points of the battery clip. I have soldered at least five of these back on. I suspect only one point may be soldered yet allowing the one function to work but not the others. If so, this is an easy fix.

Couch - I think the painted headlights would look good on your car. The red might be a little bold..perhaps a little time in Paint and you could get an idea of what it would look like..hers look good since its a black car! haha

emamon - I will be sure to check this out. This certainly sounds like a possible solution. The car was owned by an older lady and she may have bumped them around. Sure would be an easy solution..and like you said, since one function still works, this sounds like it could be the issue..will let you know.

Boost - I sure get mixed reactions about my car from the population. Most people assume im driving a granny's car (which i kinda am) but they agree it's not what they expect! Sure turns heads since its not a very common car...and being debadged...I get many people asking what kind of car it is! haha

goNpostal - Not really sure how difficult it really is. The old lenses were both cracked, so the only option was to purchase new ones. and luckily enough I ran into these for slightly more than OEM which I was looking to buy. I do agree, they make that car look sweet!

    Hey guys,

Got a chance to look at her remote a little bit today, no inside connection seemed bad to me..I took pictures and can post them little later when I get a chance. I did however clean up the connections and got one remote to work with door locks..lock and unlock. When I hit the remote start button, the lights on the car would flicker, but the car wouldn't ever start...is there another button I need to hit with the remote start button? Kinda like the old GM's you had to hold lock and unlock at same time??

Thanks for input guys, really appreciate it!

Yonkerse, the correct procedure for remote start is to press the lock button twice. Then press and hold the remote start. Once started the car will run 10 min. If the key is not inserted and ignition turned on it will turn off at the end of 10 min. You are allowed two successive remote starts, after that you need to do a key start to activate remote start again. Ed
