Looks like a project, but I love these kind of projects!
What about the motor and tranny? I would be worried with a 22" decal someone might have been running 22" wheels on it, which can reek havoc on our trannies.

Update time:
I bought the hood on ebay for 168.35 shipped, a new rubber keypad for the remote start fob$6, a pair of used taillights on ebay for $70 shipped, and have located the trunk $175 with reverse light, and a base spoiler I won't need. Both mirrors for $90 and glass: back$150, front$150(both woulda been cheaper but add the hud option and some extra antenna in the rear for remote start and both doubled), and still gotta get a moonroof from pullapart for $25
I decided to purchase a stud welder to work the dents on the roof and am gonna put it pretty well back together in a week or two after all the parts come in. Then go buy my oodles of sandpaper and body filler.
Bad news... The guy was having some title issues and it was apparent from talking to the lady I have do title work that he wasn't gonna be able to get a title and that if he did it would cost him a fortune from taxes and other junk which I informed him of, he called whoever he needed to and verrified what I was saying and we struck a new deal on the price since I only paid him $750 and was gonna pay the other $2K when I got the title since I knew something would be up with it. The new deal was just another $1600 to him making the purchase price now $2350 instead of the original $2750. Will cost me $150 for me to get the title paperwork done and a 2-4 month wait on it to be done and back to me. Which isn't too bad since I gotta do all this work anyways... It's gonna kill me if I have it done before the title gets here, but I'm sure it will take me longer with my work schedule and other obligations...
And another update full of pics...
I have everything but the front and back glass which I think I'm gonna wait and get after I paint it just cause the lines and rubber trim on that stuff will be a pita to tape up VS them being cut out. The harbor freight stud welder works awesome as does the slide hammer that came with it. I also bought my paint guns and a 2" random orbital air sander to prep for the studs.
Side moldings and all badges removed...
Porcupine style:
This is after taking all the parts out, and shop vacuuming probably 40lbs of broken glass shards...
Stud welder and angle grinder with sanding wheel.
2" orbital
Fender after taking the body hammers to it... Shoulda seen it before!
Self etching primer to cover my bare metal...
Side moldings in the back of my dads truck so he can use them as templates to cut me some sheet metal pieces to weld in those deep recesses along the sides.
Almost forgot, more bad news... I been getting a p0300 which most people know is random multiple misfires. Turns out there is a tsb out on these motors for that code and basically the just of it is the DOD **** sucks ****ing ass! The DOD I guess activates and deactivates lifters when it comes on and off. And from my guess is all and from what the tsb says I either have colapsed lifters or worn cam lobes. Seriously GM??? ? like we didn't get enough of your flat lobed cams in the small blocks? Now even the roller cams get flat lobes? I am kinda hoping for a bad cam honestly.... Since these bad boys with take most of the LSx cams, and while I have the intake off checking that out I may spring for a ls6 intake once I read up on the swap a little more. And yes I know its the DOD **** cause my handheld scanner has a section on there that counts the misfires on each cylinder and its mainly on 4 an 7 which are dod from what I have read.
But for now it runs fine, just has a little vibration at idle...
Nice job. I feel bad that I sent an 05 GTP to the crusher a week before you posted buying this. It had a back glass you could have used. But you should be able to pick one up at a reasonable price. Again NICE job.
wow kevin nice work! I got a thunderbird sc you can work on when your done with that one lolol looking good now get some glass in that beatch
Thank you sir! Bout 150ish from my local yard, but a couple online quotes I got weren't much more for new so I may go new on both since I think I already have to cause of the HUD in the windshield. I don't know if I'd be okay with a little ghosting or not...
That's why I didn't pick up the phone earlier, sorry fella... Bring that thunderchicken on down and we'll get her straight too. lol
Oh god yes, they gots to go! My dad(guy sanding in my pics) thinks I'm ****ing nuts and its too much trouble... I said shut your mouth and cut me some sheet metal that shape! (not in those words but basically) Gonna be tits for sure...
Thanks fella! I was really surprised and happy at how well the harbor freight one works... I got the middle section of the roof to go still is all and I've used over 100 studs just on those sides. You pro's ever re-use the studs? Just curious cause a lot of them still look good but didn't wanna ruin the guns tip since I didn't see any replacements for sale up there. And also what do you recommend I do with the black moldings/weather stripping pieces on the doors? There are a few good dents in those as well and I've never even removed one from a car or seen how they clip/bolt in. And it's okay to lay bondo on my etching primer right? I think you might of said just bare metal... I didn't think about it til after I already sprayed it all.
the a and b pillar pieces you can replace, yea you can reuse the studs if you really want to, i usually just buy new ones and have a can for the olds to scrap when the can is full. for the bondo, i have put bondo over self etching primer, your not supposed to acording to the manufactor because the solvent from the etch primer can lift the bondo. but i did put bondo on spots like that and it still hasnt fallen off after 2 years. so i guess your call,
I'm glad to see your filling the side moldings on the door, that is one thing I want to do on my car was well. You should just buy an LS4 motor and build that up and swap the motors.
Its looking real good so far.
Hell while your at it.. shave the door handles and trunk and install poppers!!!!!
ok i got carried away but still.. you are already going this far, might as well make it the baddest gp out there!
Gonna have to go to gm for the moldings or do you know a supplier who's hopefully cheaper?
Thanks! I looked and I can get one for like 750 surprisingly... But I have about 2-4 months before I get a title even so I will have time to have her down.
I thought about it, but I think this is gonna be my grocery getter/family hauler and I might get to focus a little more on my gtp and maybe strip some of the extras off of it. And the trunk is already shaved, it took me FOREVER to find out how to pop the trunk on this thing... I was crawling trough the backseat area and using the emergency release since I need a battery for the remote still. I about **** when I went back there with my key and couldn't find a whole to stick it in, then no button in the glove box, or on the side of the door like my wife's GA. BUT if you buy me the kit I will gladly weld over the door handle openings...lol
BTW for anyone whose wondering you hold the unlock switch for a few seconds and it pops, and it is marked but that's the last place I looked for the thing...
I have to say since this wouldn't be your only car, a nice cam is in order.
I been looking around a bit and this cought my eye....
Ls6 243 Complete Performance Heads & New Z06 Hot Cam | eBay
Same 243 heads but with the bigger intake valves and better valves and springs, and then I could add a full cnc port job for 950 and have them decked to bump up compressrion for another 125. And do away with the DOD crap but I would for sure need headers 950 and bigger better intake couple hundred, and a trans 3k, and then a turbo 5k, and lots and lots of tires. But realistically I may just grab a used cam out of an ls2 or similar if I actually need one and for sure replace the lifters with all NON dod ones unless they have a newer better dod lifter that won't fail at 42k. I would love to do all that but I only have money for one car and since this one is stealing the gtp's money with its bodywork and new tools she's gonna be hungry for my cash when I get this one done.
Thats it? Its not the vertical pieces so much since only one has a dent that I've noticed. Its the horizontal pieces with the rubber moldings built in. Awesome if they are that cheap. Heres a pic to verify
Another idea I just had while looking through the pics... Has anyone seen the roof rails filled in? Just and idea, might look kinda odd. What you guys think?
