Shameless self bump because big daddy szala derailed the thread.
I got a second job for the summer and I'm debating either getting another car to DD or just dumping some more money into the STi. I don't want to replace the turbo yet, so what else could I do?
Re: My 2005 WRX STi (exhaust video pg 7)
Oh Nice! Love the new exhaust.

you are on NASIOC right? that seems like a question best suited for an impreza forum. with that said how a bout upgrading the IC? maybe a FMIC? idk i havent looked into STI modding. i will have to settle for a WRX when the time comes.
oh BTW i was driving home tonight when i hear this exhaust rumble opening up from a street i was about to pass. i looked down the street honestly expecting to see an fbody. nope WRX/STI. i was thoroughly confused... but mostly impressed.
Re: My 2005 WRX STi (exhaust video pg 7)
There's a heavily moded (I think '06-ish STi motor swapped) carbon fibered, slammed, murdered out older style 2.5RS around here that has 3.5" oval-tubing turbo back. It is beyond words... I have never heard nicer exhaust on anything in my life. If I see him around I will make sure to take a vid.
You could always go with weight reduction via CF; weight reduction is the best mod there is.
Re: My 2005 WRX STi (exhaust video pg 7)
I am on NASIOC, but they're useless. No one has anything nice to say over there so I stick to forums I'm already on. I guess that question was directed towards Bio, hoping he would chime in with some suspension something or other.

my opinion here, but take it how you may:
i have no self control and would mod the crap out of the STI and not care. they are reliable as hell so long as you keep the tune in check and dont let your throttle have two positions (on/off).
however, if youre not looking to replace the turbo i would 100% say it's time for an intercooler upgrade. look into the process west unit. supposedly its a mammoth and cheaper than most of the 'big name' brands out there (spearco, perrin, etc). i am a big fan of top mount setups, but if you really want to a FMIC setup wouldnt be a bad idea. most of the guys making lots of power have gone FMIC because the TMIC heat soaks pretty easily after a few, long, high boost runs.
since i know youre a reasonable dude, i'd say you'd be fine with a bigger TMIC.
this is all assuming you have a turbo back exhaust as it is...which i think you do...
also, if youre kind of content with the power situation, think about suspension. the car, even though it's an STI, does have a lot of slop in stock form that can be cleaned up with a new key components. the first of which should be some nicer end links (kart boy, perrin, whiteline, they are all the same). also think about sway bars. next up: drop springs. RCE (race comp engineering) makes FANTASTIC springs that drop the car slightly and actually have amazing spring rates and will help handling considerably. i would highly recommend them since i know you're not a fan of the sooper dropped cars like mine.
all in all, you cant go wrong any way you go.
but in the end, would it be a better option to keep miles off the STI and drive a beater for the majority of your commuting miles? sure would. your choice.
Re: My 2005 WRX STi (exhaust video pg 7)
I thought I replied to your post already, sorry Bio. you didn't type all that for nothing.
I'm also wanting to hold off an an I/C upgrade. I'm going to stick with the stock turbo until it needs to be replaced. When it goes then I'll upgrade turbos and either get a huge TMIC or switch to a FMIC. I do have a turboback exhaust already.
The suspension stuff is what I'm really interested in right now, so thanks for the direction there. The car handles very well but if I can make it even better I'd love to. I do have the GD chassis strut clunk that I'd like to get rid of. I know the struts can be repacked but If want to replace them with coilovers I think, or at least nicer struts.
Another thing I want to look into are a few small appearance things. Some of the lips I've seen look pretty good. I'm also wanting to get some kind of diffuser for the underside of the rear bumper and also a spare tire well diffuser. I wish I could find JDM STi foglights as well but I've yet to find a set for the 04/05. The HID headlights are actualy pretty useless in the rain, the light just refracts everywhere. The stock bulbs are color shifting and probably aren't as bright as they should be either though, so I'm definitely replacing them.
I think the idea of a beater is out the window for now. If anything I'll probably pick up another bike but I might just bank some money this summer and do some mods to the STi. I liked the 2011 sedans more and more every time I look at them and I think I want to start saving now for one, or start saving towards the next good looking new STi.
Re: My 2005 WRX STi (exhaust video pg 7)
On a different note I was finally convinced I was going to paint my wheels gold but something is pushing me towards doing them in black instead...Anyone have any input?

Re: My 2005 WRX STi (exhaust video pg 7)
i like the black one better
Re: My 2005 WRX STi (exhaust video pg 7)
my friend at work has his painted black on his black STI. boring.
Re: My 2005 WRX STi (exhaust video pg 7)
That SOMETHING wouldn't happen to be the pic on my FB would it? Lol. I say go for the black, it looks great.
Re: My 2005 WRX STi (exhaust video pg 7)
Partly, yes. I love the black on black, especially on STi's. But gold BBS's belong on STi's. Maybe I should just get a set of goldies and run them in the summer, then paint my stock ones black and run them in the winter? I really can't decide.
Re: My 2005 WRX STi (exhaust video pg 7)
Cherry Blossom Red wheels?
Who's man enough?

Re: My 2005 WRX STi (exhaust video pg 7)
i like colored wheels on imports, if its done right. i keep wanting a white haweye on some medium/ dark green wheels.
thats my way of saying black is boring and gold is over done.
