So the GP is still throwing a fit... I need to get a blower motor, because A/C is now a requirement to drive it.

Need a trans, because it's getting slowly worse and I need to keep driving the car... So junkyard trans while I either pull the old one apart and rebuild it, or ship it off to either Brandon or TEP and get it legitimately rebuilt.

Then the P/S lines, trans cooler lines, finally finishing the top-swap, rear lateral control arms, HUD, heated seats, exhaust...



Did I mention that the Army pays A LOT when you move yourself, because it's still much cheaper than having a company come and pack up everything and ship it? I'm looking at about $10k-$15k after paying off the GTCC. It helps that the move was well over 4,000 miles.

I finally got enough crap moved around in the garage to get this boat in there... I've still got stuff on the sides that needs to go inside the house eventually, but it's nice to have this car inside a garage for the first time in 5 years.

I'm gonna have to give up my garage spot eventually, but it's f'n mine for now.

Do it yourself man. I will "loan" you all my 4t65e specialty tools and help you along the way. You can do it.

I was thinking more about the time it would take and well... You can see how much room I have to work with in this garage. lol

But I've definitely tackled a few complex rebuilds that would be insane to anyone without experience in satellite communications. Heck, they'd be insane to anyone IN sat-com.

And unfortunately, their function and configuration is sensitive information, so no story time. But if you google AN/GSC-52, that's about the size and complexity that I'm dealing with.

So after that tangent, I think a 4T65e isn't as much of a challenge as it seemed before... The real challenge is going to be getting the wife to agree to me possibly committing vehicular homicide all over the garage floor, then taking up half of the garage with a transmission rebuild that could take weeks.

I tell people to find a decent core (craigslist, junkyard) and rebuild that while still limping along on the worn out trans. Once it's built, swap them out over a weekend. Car would be down a couple days at the most. Then sell your old worn out trans as a buildable core. Might cost you a couple hundred extra in the end, but you will save way more than that by doing it yourself. When you can take your time you're far less likely to make a mistake. Plus, I guarantee you're going to have to wait on parts. There are certain things you can't order ahead of time like selective washers.

The size of your garage isn't an issue. Judging by the picture, that's about what I have to work in. All the space you really need is what a decent work bench takes up.

This trans is giving me different issues than it used to... when it's cold it really likes showing off that the input clutch piston/seal is shot, but it becomes less apparent as it warms up. Over the past few months, it will take longer and longer to "warm up" and for those issues to lessen, and it takes much more RPM to get it to actually shift into gear from a cold start.

I might be able to do another fluid change, another extra bottle of Lucas, and bump the line pressure in the tune up a little bit to keep this one limping along, but I have a feeling I'm getting close to the failure point of the old PCS solenoid. I tried doing a big jump in line pressure about a year ago and it worked fine for about 3 days, then it got much worse very quickly...

While the JY trans could be just as bad as this one, I at least know that this one refuses to outright die or fail for whatever reason, so it might not be as completely worn out as I had originally thought. Plus I already know the issues this one has, so I know what to pay particular attention to during the rebuild. One more reason why I want to keep this trans is because it acts like it has a mind of it's own and a personality, and it's part of the reason why I've grown attached to this car. I shouldn't be sentimental about a transmission, but oh well.

I'm heading to the pick & pull tomorrow, should be able to pick up all the parts I'm looking for...

Then all I'm gonna need is a pulley and gaskets and I will have BOOST!

Still won't actually get it done anytime soon, but progress will be made.

I might be dragging my buddy with me, he's really excited that I've finally agreed to get into rally racing with him... He wants to look for something that we can start getting some practice in with, and the junkyard is the cheapest place to get a car that nobody would care if it got wrapped around a tree.

I'm just happy that I'll have a second set of hands.

Zero L32/L67 whatsoever. But I did find some decent seats, even though the rear seat had been fubar'd by some retard that didn't know how to remove it... It's bent into a U, and I'm not sure if I'd be able to get it back into useable shape. But there's a HUD and some other interior pieces that I've been looking for... I'll be heading back tomorrow.

Got the steering wheel swapped out for the leather one, which coincidentally fixed the horn problem... The clips holding the airbag to the steering wheel were grounding out against the frame of the steering wheel, perpetually completing the horn circuit and setting it off.

But now it looks good, and after scrubbing everything with a Mr. Clean magic eraser it actually feels like a (almost) new steering wheel and shift knob. It feels like a leather steering wheel should... smooth and satin-y until you tighten your grip then it's nothing but grip.

Now to get this HUD installed...

Two steps forward, two steps back... I'm trying my hardest to avoid tearing apart the entire dash, but I might have to in order to get this HUD installed and working.

I hate when you get so close to having everything come out without issue, then the one hard-to-get trim piece crumbles with the slightest pressure...

Cut a giant hole, installed the HUD and HUD switch, Now I just need to order the new trim panel...

Still haven't done hubs yet. lol

Interested to see how the HUD display looks on a non-HUD windshield. Now that I need my windshield replaced, wondering if its worth the extra coin for the official HUD one.

Pics might have to wait a little bit, my phone took a dump and I had to factory reset it...

I still have yet to re-connect the neg battery cable and see if it even works. lol

I have a non hud window in my car, hud while I hate it and never use it, when it appears to go on, is clear.

From what I can tell, the HUD specific windshield just has an anti-glare film applied to the inside where the HUD actually projects onto.

I'll get pics of it tomorrow, but one thing I did notice is that it shows the temperature even if you don't have an ambient temperature sensor... I'm guessing 86° is the default? Lol

If I turn on the headlights, or the overhead lights, my phone won't pick it up. But it looks much larger to the eye, and it's more than clear enough.
