It's not the crank relay, at least it doesn't test that way.
Got a new relay, no dice.
Swapped with other relay(s), still nothing.
Tried repeatedly just cranking it, on the 5th time it kicked a little. Three more tries later it started right up... WTF?!?!
Now I'm thinking it's the starter solenoid, but I've given it a few good whacks before and nothing. Then I wiggle the relay and it works. Might be the fuse block itself....

Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
Blower motor/resistor is finally going out after over a year of making horrible screeching and grating noises. The blower actually moves air in fits and starts, enough to keep the car warm but not enough to keep it toasty.
Winter up here is still in full swing, and we've got a couple of months to go before it actually starts warming up. Yay.

Wd-40 with the straw, up into the hole at the base of the hamster wheel axle.

Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
Pulled that little cover on the passenger side, neat little pile of black metallic powder right under the fan. Plenty more dripped out when I sprayed the WD-40, that fan isn't gonna last much longer. lol
But it'll be fine until it warms up.

Glad it worked for you. Re-apply as needed. You know what they say.... "EVERYTHING goes better with lube...." lol.

Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
Now I just need a few solid days off and a warm place to leave the car so it'll thaw out and I can actually get the work done that it's been needing.
I really hate not having a garage.

Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
Trial and error has revealed that by wiggling the fenderwell ground, the car will usually start at a bump of the key.
No f*cking clue why that would affect only the starter motor and nothing else... But now I have to find a more permanent solution to the previously permanent solution. I could redo the ground again, I could relocate it, or redo all of the battery cables.
Still have to do the steering rack... And the horn... And the blower motor... Maybe try to fix the alignment a little...
But the springs have officially settled. So I got that going for me. Which is nice.

Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
Maybe cuz starter is your biggest draw ? Ghunga La Ghunga.
-
Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
Probably. I might need to just re-do every ground and battery cable connection.
-
Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
I did that a few weeks ago. Went to the JY and got a perfect set of cables +/- terminals, body and trans ground, and starter cable. I was having similar issues. The turd fires up nicely now. Best part is the hole set up was 5 bucks lol

Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
I had a brass nut brazed on and tapped through for a new chassis ground, then I ran 0 gauge from the battery to the fuse box, battery to alternator positive with fuse, battery to starter, 0 gauge from engine to battery negative, and the starter has never worked so good! Think I paid less than $50 for connectors fuses and cable? Though I do have to note that I have the upgraded CS144 140Amp alternator with a 12" kicker sub in the rear, so that might have had more to do with it.... but hey! Great time to upgrade that too! :th_laugh-lol3:

Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
That was my plan, but it's looking like I might be working this weekend, and possibly every day until the middle of next month.
I seriously do not get paid enough for this ****.

Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
i feel your pain, was to cold to do any work on my car all winter, ive had new fuel and brake lines for over a year now. just hit the shop for a est on the job. guys like 150. im like when can i drop it off?

Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
I asked around for estimates, lowest I got was $350 to r&r the steering rack and flush out all the old nasty P/S fluid.
That's twice what I paid just for the parts... I'm not that desperate just yet.
-
Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
Got the steering rack swapped out this past weekend, took a bit of massaging with the lines and the steering shaft to get it all the way in, but it's in and it's working.
Apparently there's a few differences between magnasteer and non-magnasteer racks... Most importantly being the position of the line connections. On my old rack they were facing different directions, and on the new one they were both on the same machined surface. Then the steering shaft wanted to fight tooth and nail, had to go find a bigger prybar to persuade it back on.
I'm gonna need new power steering lines.... There's a few extra bends in my old ones. lol

Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
Jug of power steering fluid fell over and leaked a little behind the passenger seat, now it smells like cat piss when it gets warm in there...
Is that just me, or does the clear power steering fluid smell like cat piss to anyone else?

Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
Just you smells like oil to me

Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
Dusted off the DHP, I'm going to get this turd running like it should be.

Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
Yup. Still slow as hell.... But I'm tired of it running pig-rich and simply wasting gas.
Plus I still have some tweaking to do to the trans tune, if the trans was brand new it'd be close to perfect. Right now, with it needing an input clutch piston and seal, probably some new solenoids... It's staying in 1st a little longer than I like at lower speeds, and still taking too long to go into gear after coming to a stop.
