Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
Figures. Lol they used some sort of grease to stick the gasket to the valve cover which caused the gasket to swell and then over tightened the bolts! Smoked really bad! Re- did it with felpro gaskets and picked up the rear black valve cover off a newer Buick lacrosse. Got plenty in the junkyard if you need them!
-
Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
I'm thinking I'll just paint the rear one, because if I ever do get around to doing the top-swap I'll have different valve covers anyways. lol

That's why I don't want to get mine done. It isn't leaking!

Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
About to go tackle the VC gaskets and a bunch of other little stuff... Not completely over being sick but it needs done and I have time today. I'm just not excited about tearing the front bumper off to get the horns in there.
Plus all of the extra soldering I'm gonna have to do... bleh.
-
Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
You've got this! And btw you have to finish this because I'm bored and totally invested! lol Feel better!
-
Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
Well I got some of it done... lol
First thing I tackled was the VC gaskets. Found the leak the moment I pulled the cover off.

Yup. That kinda pissed me off, and just another reason why I don't trust other people to work on my car. Especially when "highly trained, certified mechanics" make a mistake like this, that would have taken less than a second to fix. (end rant)
But as I was tightening down the front dogbone bracket, wife walks up and tells me she just got a refund from her college and wants me to get car parts with it. :th_scratchhead:
Then she tells me she's tired of hearing me tell her all the little things I need to fix so she's going to just let me buy whatever I need until I stop complaining. Ohh.... Ohhhhh ho ho....
:th_mischievious: Ohhhhhhhhh..........she has no idea. lol
So I tightened everything back down, changed the oil real quick, and went to order a new steering rack and a few other things from O'Reillys. It's coming up from Anchorage, so it'll be here Saturday. I'll be pulling the old one out that morning, drop it off for the core charge when I pick up the new one, and probably buy some other **** as well.
But this morning she woke up with what I've been getting over these past few days, so now I'm taking care of her today. :P
One more pic from yesterday:

EDIT: I know it's upside down, somewhere between Flickr and GPF it's weird. It's right-side-up on Flickr... https://flic.kr/p/Jh7K1z lol
And yes, I did get the rear cover off without pulling the alt bracket. It wasn't fun trying to get it back on... bruised the crap out of the back of my hands making sure the gasket didn't drop out of the channel in the cover as I wiggled it in there. But it's done and leak free.
...Mostly...
At least the top half of the engine doesn't leak. Oil pan leak is getting worse, that'll be Saturday as well. Probably.
Hopefully.

DUDE! Please tell me how you got that to happen. My wife HATES me spending money on the car! :th_laugh-lol3:
Good job so far though!

Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
Well as always today did not go as planned.I woke up late, slept through my alarms, and when I called to see if my parts had come in, they were still waiting on the truck to come in.
But honestly, my wife is one of those rare specimens that doesn't like spending money on herself.
I hit it really lucky when I found her. Lol

Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.

Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
A set up that is 7 years in the making? I'm starting to doubt your grip on reality, corey. lol

Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
LOL ya I wonder sometimes too.

Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
Well since I pulled a muscle in my back last week, I've been doing a lot of just sitting and not moving with a heating pad and muscle relaxers... I'm following the doc's orders to do nothing and rest, because I've known a few who kept going with a small injury like this and ended up destroying one of their disks and needing back surgery. I never want to be that miserable.
I've still got parts just sitting in my trunk and back seat, there might be a legit pile of parts by the time I actually get around to working on it again.
Such is life...
But the waifu proved herself yet again, she braved the hell that was our local Sam's Club. (it's the only bulk outlet within a few hundred miles, and most of the local restaurants and businesses, and the locals that live out in the bush and drive the 100+ miles to buy bulk items every 6 months; depend on it for supplies, so imagine black friday on hulk steroids)
She spent almost 6 hours waiting in line to get a metric fckton of everyday stuff like TP, trash bags, ziploc bags, coffee, granola bars, and (the best part) she grabbed one of the last Xbox One X's that they had. Everything in the store is 25% off. All in all, she spent less than the original price of the Xbox One X, about $480.

Now I need a 4k tv to really make use of it. lol

Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
Ive got me one of them there 4k TVs....
I bought it 3~ years ago. They are nice but content is still behind the curve.
-
Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
I know, but I've had the same 40" for over 4 years and it's starting to get tired... There's already a pixel in the center that is forever green, and 40" gets pretty small when you have a big living room.
If I find a decent 55" or 60" at a good price that isn't UHD 4k, I'm probably not going to worry too much. But I'm still gonna look at 4k, just because I have something that can actually make use of it now.
-
Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
I had a stuck pixel on my old 46". There is a video on youtube that if you play it on the tv, it is designed to unstick pixels. It fixed mine.
-
Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
I've tried a few of those videos, they didn't fix mine. I'm not terribly upset, it has survived longer than I expected it to.

Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
First thing to concern me in a long while happened today, car wouldn't start. turn the key to run, hear the fuel pump prime, turn it to start and nothing. Not even a click.
So I took the wife's for 0630 PT, came back and at 0900 the same thing. Pop the hood, looked at the fuses, battery and starter cables, checked for any codes, nothing seems wrong. Close the hood, try starting it one last time just on principle, and the damn b*tch kicks over without hesitation. No effin clue why.
Now I'm thinking the damn thing is sentient and is doing this sh*t on purpose.
Regardless, still haven't done any of the sh*t I've been meaning to. Meh.

Re: 04 gp gt: low, slow and a dirty sloot.
Crank relay is sticking. It's either from the cold or from age, or a combination of both.
I wish I had time to actually fix it, instead of just smacking the damn thing until it starts.

Same thing on mine, I haven't got a new one yet, but I did swap it with another relay from elsewhere in the underhood box. A/C clutch, I think. Not much need for that right now...lol.
