Hi my name is Curtis. I am new to this forum. I recently purchased an 03 Grand Prix V6 3.1L. The vehicle has over 200,000 miles but runs very good, well it did. My vehicle has been dying on me while I am driving. The firs time this happened I was making a right turn at a street light when my car died, I coasted into a parking spot and could not get the car to start. The battery had a full charge and car cranked but no start. I towed my car home that night. The next day I tried again and the darn thing started. Don't know how but it started, so I drove to the corner store and back and had no problems starting.

A few days ago my wife was running errands and was on her way home when the car died again. She stalled and had some good Samaritans help push vehicle into a gas station parking lot. She called and I was less that 5 minutes away. By the time I got there she said the car started so I followed her back home.

So I get the car back home and I am thinking the fuel filter is clogged or the fuel pump is going out. So I check for fuel pressure under the hood at the fuel line. Now I don't have the tools to check the system properly. Long story short I have replaced the fuel filter and fuel pump and have the same results. My car still stalls when it heats up it seams. I don't want to guess at what is wrong or replace anymore parts that may not need to be replaced so if anyone has any suggestions or advise I would appreciate your input. Thank you.

Most likely a cam/crank sensor issue. They always cause it to stall, but work once its cooled off a bit. I'm pretty sure the 3.1 is known for both to go bad but I'm not sure. I'm not a 3.1 guy, most have 3800's but maybe someone will stop by that knows more about them.

x2 on crank sensor, Also when it "stalls" does it sputter or does it turn off like a light switch.

The car does not sputter but I can tell that the vehicle will cut off before it actually stalls. It just stalls. I was told that it may be the ignition module or maybe the ignition switch. I am having an issue with automatic headlights and heater control unit. Key comes out of ignition switch with car on, key is a little worn. Have not checked fuel pump relay. Is there any way I can test the fuel pump relay?

I know bending the 85 tab on the GTP's normally sets the fuel pump in high mode and it rules that out...

Not sure about a 3.1 though.

Are you saying you lose power to the entire car when it has a fit?

When a car sputters berfore it stalls, I usually look toward fuel first. If it has "fast stall" usually means you lost spark. Could be a few things, ignition switch, bad pcm, ignition module, crank/cam signal lost, bad connector somewhere.
