Thread: New GTP owner with some questions

Hey guys, just picked up a navy blue metallic '00 4 door GTP with 132k miles on it. This car will be my daily driver/rolling project car. I've wanted to daily one of these cars for a while now, but never thought I'd actually buy one until I saw this car come up, I figured I would go for it for the price. With that said, I'm sort of unfamiliar to the W-Body cars beyond the basics so I just have some questions about it. BTW, I'll have some pics of the car up soon.

-Sounds like it has a miss/surge at idle, I think this is because it needs spark plugs. What are the best plugs for a stock car? Also what oil/trans fluid are you guys running in these?

-Any input on good replacement OEM headlight/taillights? Been looking on ebay but there appears to be different brands to choose from.

-What are a good set of OEM replacement brake pads?

And for now that's it, I have to drive the car a bit more and see what other quirks come up with it, thanks for any help!

Cool, thanks for the info man. I have an '02 SS as well so I'll have to keep that in mind once I upgrade the brakes on there lol

Sorry I should've been more specific, when I said '02 SS I meant Camaro, I have one as my toy. I can just swap my old brakes off of that onto the GP. I had no idea they were considered an upgrade on these cars

yes you could. 98-02 f body brakes are what is used. you need to get a metal sleeve to center the f body caliper bracket bolts, or drill and tap the w body bolts to fit the f body brackets.

the w body bolts are larger. any time you go from a single piston to a dual piston and a inch or so larger rotor braking will improve.

it was one of the first things i did to my car after the second set of stock crap wore out in no time.

Plugs- I run AC 41-104 (Iridium), the stock kind. Hope I got that number right. Check wires and coil packs also. Chances are by the time you change plugs, there will be a damaged wire. Must check the coil end of your wires for funk, too. Coil packs themselves are gonna be tired at 132K also and could def cause roughness. However vaccuum leaks are smooth idle's enemy #1 on the supercharged cars.

Oil- Valvoline 10-30 MaxLife. ATF- Valvoline also.

No input on good lamps, as you see the options suck.

I like Wagner Thermo-Quiet pads. It is important to break in new pads properly.

Thanks! I had planned on changing the wires out once I do the plugs, probably tackle them both this week. Guy I bought it from said he actually replaced the coil packs, but who knows how long ago it was. Probably do that as well. I have a laundry list of things to do with the car, but I'm really excited to start bringing it back to life though.

Here's a pic, I haven't had a chance to even wash the car yet. Just looking at it, I don't think this car has been cleaned in a long time and it definitely is not in the greatest shape cosmetically. But, for what I'll be using it for and for what I paid, I can't complain. However, like I said, it's going to be a project. I plan to have it in nice shape by the summer.
