QUESTION: Will this gauge read knock retard on a GM car?
ANSWER: The ScanGaugeII will show the actual timing in real time. It doesn't show a knock retard value. Its under the name of ign. This isn't the actual kr reading correct? Is there anyway to figure out the kr based off the ignition timing gauge? If not what is the least expensive method of scanning for kr? An actual gauge not any apps.

im not sure what you want to know.

to scan for KR you need a gauge and or a app. both can show timing if you want.

98 Buick Regal GS, F body brakes, Caddy STS wheels, tinted tails L36 bottom end, lightly ported heads, 1.95 roller rockers, headers, gen 5 N* 3.0 pulley, FSIC, 42 lb injectors, a BrandonHall rebuilt trans, DHP tuned and AEM water/Meth injection https://goo.gl/gpV5kW

You know that scan gauge ll someone reccomended i get it along time ago i posted a thread about modding. Im just wondering if the ignition timing gauge on it says anything about kr. If not what other gauge or electronic can tell me about kr thats not too techy something simple. And I was saying id perfer to stay away from apps.

timing and KR are two different things.

you need either a scangauge or aeroforce or a app to see any live data.

the torque app is less then 20 bucks, only good if you have a droid phone tho. it reads the same thing my dhp does when i scan with that.

so for less then 20 bucks its the best bang for your buck.

Slightly off topic, but do no programs similar to the Torque App exist for us stuck with Apple devices?

I have HPT, but I don't want to be dragging that around just to check on temps when I'm curious.. Hahaha

i try to help out where i can. im all for the cheap route. if your car is just stock you dont need more then the t app. it also reads and clears trouble codes. along with more live data then you'll know what to do with lol
