Thread: broken spring in seat?

there is a small raise in my passenger seat right in the middle. on google images I've seen a similar thing on some cars. is it a broken spring popping through. i have leather seats and if its a broken spring how would i go about fixing it? thanks

You dont sorry you would meed to get a new lower seat and replace it

you dont have springs. the foam sits on a frame with wire strung across it. those wires do break. ive used bailing wire to rig a repair.

or hit a junk yard for a new one.

would it be easier to fix the wire or leave it how it is cause all the grand prixs at the junk yard have cloth seats

you can take the lower seat cushion off real easy, its just plastic clip that runs the bottom of the cover, pop it off the cushion and cover come off to reveal the spring frame. take the frame, swap yours with it.

its best to take a look from under your seat to see if the wires are broken or not.

could i just cut the small piece of broken wire and leave at that or do i have to get a whole new wire. or could i make shift a wire i don't know

If you have 1 or more broken wires that support the foam cushion in your GP leather seats, you will be able to take parts off of a cloth covered GP seat. The foam cushion is the same in both and the way the wires support the cushion is the same.

from what i remember my cars seat the wires were not replaceable. unless you rig a new wire. has to be thin strong wire.

i also rubber cemented a towel to the foam, (old vinyl material also works) cut/ trim to fit, this keeps the wires from slicing into your foam and killing the foam further.

if you hit the JY, look for a good foam bottom if yours is all f ed up.

With the high miles I have put on the GP's I have owned, I have had issues with breakage in the wire/spring network (that supports the bottom seat cushion).
It is always the wires that break due to the constant stress placed on them, as they have to bend to support the weight of the driver. I was never successful at replacing an individual wire and getting the whole wire network to be tight and strong enough to support the seat cushion. I always sought out replacement wires (and springs) from GP's in the junk yard, and replaced the entire wire network under the seat cushion.
I also had issues with the wires cutting into the seat cushion, rendering it less supportive of the weight of the occupant.
so, I have used the same method the Scottydoggs said above, using numerous pieces of old vinyl material between the support wires and the bottom of the seat cushion. I used an adhesive similar to gorilla glue on the vinyl to prevent it from moving around on top of the wires. This method worked well for me.
