So I've been doing some initial research on swapping to a N* throttle body. Is this possible on a GT non-s/c model 2002 GP? I know I need more research but thought I'd ask the noob question. Any help is greatly appreciated! Go easy on me lol. I'm new to the 3800 series engines but not new to GM vehicles.

Gotcha, I'm just looking for some power adders for this motor. I even thought about just swapping a GTP engine into it. Will newer GTP engines fit in the 97-03 body styles?

    Yes.

I suggest researching as your next mod.

Generic topics like these have been covered a trillion times.

Yeah I've checked out that thread already and many more. I'll keep researching. I'm new to these cars but not GM.

You can do a topswap to your current motor as well, so you don't have to change the entire engine to supercharge it.

    Well, my question would be...budget?

Current shape the car is in mechanical wise?

What you're wanting out of the car performance wise...answer those...and if your mechanical skill is up to par, these motors are pretty simple to work on too.

The car is in great shape and very mechanically safe for having 159,000 on her. I'll keep researching first though. Thanks for all the help guys. I'll take it all into consideration, just didn't know if a GT with a N* throttle would produce any more good HP to this thing.

Nope...more air coming in wouldn't really warrant any gains when you can't move it out efficiently.

The restriction is in the crappy transmission we've been gifted with.

    The horrid manifolds/downpipe.

    And the peanut sized valvetrain.

N* TB on a GT would do basically nothing. Rockers/plog/headers are good starting mods if you want some more hp.

That's where I'm at right now. CAI, headers, exhaust, the simple things. I'm gonna look into turbo's as well but I'll keep researching and get back to ya. The body needed some new fenders, hood, and a side trim molding, other than that for $800. I'm impressed with this vehicle.

I'll tell you, catless headers, intake, ported stock throttle body, L76 valve springs, ER Rockers, HV3 insert, Shift Kit of some sort, Poly Upper Mounts/Solid Lower mounts, and a good dialed in tune...would probably net close to 200 horsepower to the wheels...and would be close to being on par with a stock GTP. Been there; done that...I know for sure. Only difference was I had a ported manifolds and a 3" downpipe along with a ported GTP throttle body, GTP injectors, and a 04+ aluminum intake manifold instead of the crappy plastic one.

Regardless of what you do, simple bolt-ons and a tune will really wake these cars up, for what it's worth. Back in the day, HiPo Pontiac tested an N/A GT and picked up nearly 30 horse to the tire with headers, a cold air intake, plugs/wires/coils (not that those really matter unless they need changed), cooler t-stat, and a tune.

Good stuff man, that sounds like the plan then. I had researched the colder thermostat as well but didn't know if it would matter on just a GT.

The only bonus to a N* TB is that it doesn't have that dragon breath sound on start up, for those with a CAI that is. That massive air rushing sound, very annoying, but the N* doesn't do that. Otherwise it's useless to you without huge mods to go with it.

WHAT HE SAID^^^^^^ that and a bottle! Ive always wanted to see a solid NA setup sprayed to the moon. hell even a 75 to 100 zex dry shot would be awesome!

Why you ask? because a solid NA setup is so simple and with a hit it wouldn't be anything to laugh at!

I'll try to get around to it man but I got a ways to go. Thanks for your service btw, I'm an Iraqi War vet myself man. I did Korea, Japan, Afghanistan, Iraq, then got out of active duty and joined Ohio guard and got deployed to Kuwait for a year. After 10 years, 3 combat deployments, I called it quits when they wanted me to go back for a 4th combat deployment to Afghan AGAIN.
