My exhaust suddenly got really loud and my butt is vibrating bad. I looked under my car and there's a gap or separation between the cat and resonator (?) Anyway, since I was going to replace the exhaust tubing, I had a few questions. On page 2 of this thread, HighOctaneRacing posted a link to some tubing. Will this definitely fit my car? It's for an 04-08 but my cay is an 01 gt. If so, what's the difference in the measurement? If I get that, will I most likely need a new resonator? I didn't see how it's connected, weld or clamp. Should I just get both from rockauto or just the resonator? Also, do I need to get gaskets for any of this? Will there have to be modification? It's really annoying but is there a danger involved if I wait a week while still driving?

I noticed that I seem to accelerate faster. Should I try to not accelerate so much?

no danger. unless you smell fumes. or taste em.

dont see the link, but if its the mandrel bent kit of just pipes, yes it will fit. its slipe joint so weld, clamp, or band clamp. i have this one saved, not sure if its the same one, but it fits too. http://www.mandrelexhaustsystems.com...ND-PRIX/Detail

res you can use a glass pack instead.

Glass pack? And yeah that's the link. Do measurements matter and would these come with all the pieces, gaskets, etc.

So glass packs are for the mufflers only? What about the res?

Glass pack OR resonator. Not both
Glasspacks are cheaper and ppl use them to replace the resonator.
Another option is to just replace the resonator with a 2.25" pipe. It'd be Lil louder but is the cheapest option.

this is a glass pack. i cut the tube off one side, welded a flange to the end so it could be unbolted from the DP. it replaces the res for less than 1/2 the price.

Sorry I was reading about glass packs and it implying that they are mufflers. I'm gonna possibly need muffs too eventually. Can glass packs supplement mufflers or am I reading it wrong?
Also, am I going to have to replace the cat since this might be weld job or can that be something in the future?

cat you want to weld in.

glass packs for mufflers sound like crap, its been done.

i have sd headers, no cat, a 32 inch res and a single muffler cat back. theres no drone or nothing, sounds stock still.

So should I get rid of the cat altogether? Is this a more economical option? Is it legal? I have a gt so it's dual mufflers.

Honestly I'm not looking into serious modifications just yet. I just want to get fixed cheap and smart. I don’t want my butt going numb and really miss my music.

cat is up to your state. inspection. no cat and the rear o2 will set the cel light. then you'll need to have the code tuned out, or try a emulator plug or two to pull the o2 out of the pipe to trick it to read right.

a high flow cat will also set the o2 code.

i need to add one by April for inspection here, im getting a cheap hi flow cat installed. they cost like 40 to 50 for a 3 inch cat. then have a shop weld it in.

I'm just gonna buy that decoy cat from frozen boost. If they see it and there's no cel they wont use the sniffer

My o2 sensor back there is setting off a code anyway and michigan doesn't inspect, I don’t think. I just want to fix it. It feels like something bad is going happen, makes me paranoid tho I know what it is. Since I don’t want anything extravagant, should I just get the tubing from RA? Of course it would be nice to get "nice" stuff, but what would be the bare minimum cheap but reliable setup?

**** a resonator, throw some super turbos on and leave everything else off. Much deeper but still quiet as hell with zero drone. Been there done that, loved the deep idle.

So I'm thinking I should get rid of the cat altogether. So what should go there in it's place? I have yet to see what exactly happened. I don't know if it's broken at the cat, at the resonator or if it's just not connected anymore. If it's just the connection, it should be an easy fix. If not and especially if it's broken at the cat, I'll just get rid of it. So really if it doesn't matter how it broke off, should I bother taking it out? What is better economical replacement?
